Though I've handled Grohmann's #1 knife and was impressed, I was never impressed enough to bite the bullet and buy one. Just too large for my needs. Well yesterday, I handled Grohmann's D.H. Russell #2 Trout & Bird, and knew I'd walk away with it if the price was right. The price was right, actually very right, as the knife really didn't fit in with what the seller had. For him it was an odd duck he picked up in an estate sale lot. Never carried, sharpened, or used.

Believe it or not, this is a large knife for me and my uses. About as large as I really need. But this certainly seems to be a very handy knife. The ergonomics are just excellent. As good as all the hype I've read. Looking forward to using it as I'm sure my first impression of it will be a lasting one. Don't like dangling sheaths, but this will likely ride in my pack or pocket.

I'm surprised there isn't more of a Grohmann/D.H Russell following on BF.

Great score  I was admiring the Grohmann Boat Knife a while back, but there doesn't seem to be a reliable UK importer. Interesting company, I'm also surprised we don't see more of them here

I purchased a couple different examples of the old Grohmann knives awhile back myself, based on comments here on the forum. I'd never had a chance to handle one and I'm glad now I took the advice from the forumites and picked them up. Just awesome knives that feel ready to work when you get one in your hand.

Good snag on that one for sure!!

Congratulations on a great find.
I think several companies and individuals make the style. Perhaps that decreases the fan base for the originator? I like my Cold Steel version. Good in the kitchen, too.
Also perhaps a bit funny-looking for some traditional purists? I wish now I'd bought some of the Gerbers and Olsens I thought were too-funny looking when they were around.

Jack,

Let me know if you would like a hand. I'm in Canada and can help as an intermediary to get one over to you at whatever the actual costs are.

I bought one for my brother as he bought one for me. Great knives. I haven't had the chance to use mine yet. Maybe next fall.
Really nice in the hand. Almost like it isn't there, like an extra finger.

The Grohmann belt knife line are all pretty great knives, they fit the hand like no other. Sigh, the last Canadian knife making company. They had the Canadian government contract to supply the belt knife to the military. Then their own Member of Parliament gave the contract AND the design to an offshore company untendered. Sooo, buy em up folks, they can use the help.
Jack, The folks at Grohmann are very friendly, I'm sure they'll send one to you if you wanted one. Just a heads up.the folder belt knife should be in hand to purchase, just sayin ))) MODS, hope I didn't go over the line with my anti government rant :D If I did just tell me and I'll delete it.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks Robin, that's a real shame about the contract, they sound like a good company
