yet another Baldor motor question

First off, I did already send an email to Baldor tech support. Just waiting on a response.

However, after searching the archives here it appears that there are a lot of folks who know more than a thing or two about Baldor motors around here.

I snagged a Baldor L3609T for $0 this weekend from a relative. Now that I have it here I'm trying to determine the proper way to wire it up. I've found this diagram online. http://www.baldor.com/products/drawing_files/pdf/CD0055.pdf After comparing with what I have it doesn't quite make sense tho.

Inside the connection box are 7 black wires labeled with aluminum tags. It has 3 wires hanging out of it and my in-laws claim it was run on 220vac. The existing connections are:

green wire from outside to frame
orange wire from outside to 4 & 5
yellow wire from outside to 1
2 & 3 internally connected
6 & 8 internally connected

I have 110vac and 220vac available in my "shop". Anyone have advice on what I'm looking at here?

Also, I'm planning to use step pulleys to get some speed variation. Anyone know where to find a step pulley with a 1.125" bore? Are there speed controllers available for AC motors?

Thanks in advance,
-Andrew

Sounds reasonable, IF it was hooked up to 240V before you got it. One ground, and one each 120V line. But if you are in any doubt, take it to a motor shop and ask them.
Electric motors rarely follow the schematics, even the ones that are on the motor plate, let alone the wire colors, which almost never match what the schematic says it should be. Take it to someone that has the equipment to test the lines as he wires it. It won't be that expensive, and could save you some real headaches, and maybe insurance claims.;):D

I think Mike's right. I had an electrician come out one day to do a bunch of stuff like that, cost me $75 that I thought was well spent.

My Baldor program shows a L3609T as having 6 leads. No's 1,2,3,4,5, and 8.
For 230 volt
line to #1
line to # 4 and 5
join # 2,3, and 8

for 115 volt
line to 1,3 and 8
line to 2, 4, and 5

to reverse exchange 5 and 8.
motor may have j leads which are thermals. disregard

I had a similar question on mine.
My motor has TWO wires coming out of it. Black and white. I want to put a cord on it, and also GROUND it. Where do I run the GREEN wire to? Can I just run the green ground wire from the new cord to the FRAME of the motor?
I will be using this for a home made air filter unit.

Sorry bud, not trying to hijack your thread. Just really couldn't justify starting a whole new thread, for this tiny little concern.
Hope that is cool with you bro.
