Yet another Commander Question

I just received my 99 Commander today which I purchased from AncientSulu (thanks Liong, you're the best!). My knife is in excellent condition and has the 50/50 CN blade with one thick and one thin liner, and nice thick scales, double detent...etc.

Anyways, I like my new knife but prefer a satin finished blade like my customs. I remember reading John H's post regarding using a Midway metal magic gun cloth to strip a Black-T finish but will this also work on a CN blade? Should I strip the finish or not???????

Secondly, I was thinking of having the blade reconfigured from a chisel grind to a more conventional v-grind but wasn't sure if doing so would remove much of the blade. My present grind seems to be high up on the blade.

Third, my knife has philips head screws on the scales and I was thinking of changin them to standard slot screws. Does anyone know if EKI will provide slotted fasteners for their customers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Holidays,

Mac

if you really don't like the knife the way it is... i'd be glad to take it off your hands ;)

only 'q i can answer is on the V grind, i have a commander that had been reprofiled by bandyto i think, i am sure someone will remember , but was hesitant to trade a BM 42BLK for it cuz of the reprofile BUT i am glad i traded, i recently compared a buds stock grind commander and imho the reprofile is a better edc edge - cut flesh better? well i dont know it cuts fajitas better lol - but this bandyto guy does a real good job, it looks factory and is SHARP and easier to sharpen than a regular commander too, i know, i redid my buds commander ( a '98 ) a little harder to do, but still plenty sharp - if if i had a stock commander would i reprofile?? i dont know, probably not cuz of collector value, but am happy w/mine BUT i only got about $80 in it, i would have to think about it though .....would also depend on the year ('98 NO) and the intended use i guess......decisions, decisions

Mac,

I would advise you not to do it to that Commander. It has collector value. Use one of the 2000s' like I do or 2001;)
