Well, I finally loaded "Service Pack 2" form Miscrosoft.

Ever since I loaded the "update," I get disconnected from the Internet (ISP Walmart Connect) every five to fifteen minutes.

The "help" at WMConnect is no help at all.

I'm going to try to look for a solution via Google.

Oh for the days when there was real support for your PC. :(

Thom, sorry to hear you're having problems.:(
Long ago I put my computer on automatic download and so far haven't had any problems with Microsoft's Updates, knock on wood.;)

I suggest you email Ken Collucci over in the Community Forum. Ken's email is listed in his profile and with Ken being the mod over there he is easy to find.;) :D
Ken is "*The*" BFC computer whiz and is very helpful to everyone asking politely. If anyone might know what the problem is Ken probably does.
Ken has helped me out a couple of times as he has many others.
Here is a link to the Community Center Forum, save you looking for it if you decide to ask Ken. ;) :D

Next time, get a mac. I'm a convert. Doesn't crash, few (if any) issues, few (if any) viruses, and generally pretty. Also, I find it to be much more intuitive than windows. And nowadays, the compatibility issues are few and far between. I actually have MS Office on my mac, and it works better here than on windows (it even has more features)!

Yay Mac!!

Chris

Tom?

You might try the tech help at your local server. I bought the Dell service package, and try as I might, I often can not understand the heavily-accented english of the tech helpers. The local guys (Illinois, for me) are happy to help.

Good luck.

that's called outsourcing, where a third world citizen can take your job & not even have to come thru the border patrol or immigration. saves the corporations millions. don't do much for customers, but, hey, they've already got yer money & now don't even have to ignore the rignin' phone in that dusty closet marked 'customer support' with the smiley face under it

This is an infuriating situation! Their bad english coupled with my bad hearing is a really bad combination.

I think that businesses are really stupid to hire people like that. I can see a few, but it seems like every time I, or anyone I know, calls about any tech support, they get someone who has an almost unintelligable accent.

Stupid that businesses pay for 800 numbers (sometimes) and then you can't understand the rep.

I am tempted -- more than "tempted" -- to NEXT time ask to speak with an American-born techie.

Lets begin doing this folks and see what happens. Remember that when you are on hold on a 800 number THEY are paying for the call.......

I would suggest that you threaten to disconnect from Wal-Mart Connect! It may be your computer, and it may be an incompatibility with WMC and your update. At any rate, THEY should help you or move on to someone who will.

My sister likes ComCast cable and I use BellSouth DSL. Been happy with their service --- though it helps that I speak a littlle Hindi......

Kronkew?

I don't blame them...either the companies or the workers who try so hard to speak MY language on their job. I'd prefer not to have it this way, but they didn't ask my opinion. It is sort of the natural consequence of a corporation having as its goal a profit for its shareholders. Although, used to be it was a matter of a healthy company over the long haul, now it is quarterly earnings reports and stock prices.

Odd. In my life time I've watch the United States stop making things and go to a service economy. Now we're out-sourcing service jobs.

I'll be long dead, but I wonder how a balance will be reached. The U.S. has been on the top rung of the ladder for a long time.

As a species, we have got a long way to go socially, economically, and politically. I think it will be a bumpy road.

Be well and safe.
