I've talked about my hug downsize I did some years ago, and how I now keep a very small knife accumulation. Over the years I've given away most of the knives I had, and kept only the ones that actually meant something to me. Either because they were so darn useful, like my old Wenger SI war horse, or some sentimental reason. I now have a nice little edc rotation of knives that are most special to me. NOt because someone died and I inherited them, but that they were given by people I have never actually met. My small but wonderful forum family. Dan, Fausto, Jack, Jamie, and now another has dropped into my life.
Apparently in one of my musings, I was reminiscing about how the stockman was my main knife from the late 60's to the mid 90's. How I had used Andy's old cadet for a few years after he passed away, and then gave it to his son, who shoots at the same club I do. I mused about buying another Buck cadet, as it's a great little knife with the bomb proof Buck 300 series construction. Well, average gimp, AKA Justin, took it on himself to gift me a new Buck cadet. Using the Northwoods stockman has been like a bit of a coming home party for me, as the three blade pattern serve me well through some army time, and raising three kids on a machinists salary. That stockman and the SAK did well for all the 1970's, 80's and early 90's when money was tight and I couldn't afford to be a knife knut. Now I even have a Buck stockman again. I guess life really has went a full circle for me in many ways.
My very first vehicle was an old beat up Vespa motor scooter, and now I'm cruising around on a Vespa again. I started ut with a Smith and Wesson .22 revolver that let me meet the gal I'd marry, and now I just shoot a Smith and Wesson .22 revolver again. That brown haired little gl and I started out roaming around on our adventures with just the two of us, and now the kids are grown and gone and it's just the two of us again. Sometimes. I started out with a scout and a stockman, and now I'm back with a scout pattern old Wenger and a stockman. All thanks to Justin.
Please give a nice big electronic hand to average gimp, for his generous nature, and to all yourselves as well. This is a great place, and you all are the ones that make it such!
Here's the new stockman, with a little of my breakfast still on the main blade.
