This one’s for me. Wanted to try a different heat treat process with CPM-Magnacut, so I made this spiffy little 4” kwaiken for myself. .110” thick stock, with wenge scales and some burgundy lace. Trading off some toughness for a bit more strength - I’ve done similar on a chef knife to great effect, and want to see how it handles other - possibly dumber - uses. The scales are affixed to the skeletonized tang with 1/16” carbon fiber pins, because I’m neurotic and don’t trust adhesives without mechanical fasteners. Call me old fashioned.

Whipped up a quick pair of lined kydex pants for it, using the wide Velcro strap mounting system that JParanee JParanee has been talking about. I’m not sure how I feel about it, as even with this little knife it still feels like mounting a 2x4 to stop sign post on my narrow ass.

I like this profile, as I find the shape and style very utilitarian, and they’re quick for me to make, so if I’m stuck on a step for a bigger project sometimes it helps me to walk away from it and make one of these. Works out well, because they’re usually absconded by friends or family, and that way I always need to make another one. :p

so many Magnacuts!
I like that wenge and the colour of your shoelace handle wrappings, that's some nice palette.
so are you cooking the steel a little hotter, or toasting it slightly cooler?
friend of mine asked me the other day if I'd ever get a knife from another maker, and two knuckleheads immediately came to mind. The right guess- one only- and you win!*

Great to see you posting again Matt. Beautifully done knife; your handle wrapping is looking better and better. Hope to see more of your work here and on the for sale sub-forum.
