Yet another pending patina thread... :)

Black Izzy taking a swim in some stripper as I type...

I want to try a simple vinegar patina and would like it as even as possible.
Now, as I understand it, does the vinegar need air to to its work?
I wanted to hang the blade in a jar of it, but will that actually not do much?
Is a thin coat left out for a while a better technique?

I've only done the wrap-it-in-a-soaked-paper-towel method. Just don't forget and find it still wrapped in the morning. Doh!
