Yet another QC issue

So I've been on the hunt for a Duke 500. I ordered one from Amazon and it came with the blade off center and the bolsters were scratched up. I could have polished the bolsters but the off center blade really bugged me. I think the seller sent me a floor model as it wasn't wrapped in foam as they usually are. At least my 112 and others I've seen have been.

So I ordered one directly from Buck and paid a bit more, and I asked them to inspect it for centering and they said they would. It finally came today and not only was the blade off there are some serious gaps between the lock bar and handle, so much I can squeeze them and reduce it. The blade has also been sharpened so much there is a recurve.

I guess if I'm going to buy anything Buck, I'll need to see it in hand before I buy it. Or maybe my standards are too high? Sad really, I really wanted to like the knife. My 112 is a real champ but a bit heavy for EDC.

My 500 is rock solid and centered. All of my 500 series are the same.

This is like the third thread about quality issues at Buck this week. Is there a rogue employee running around Buck? A rogue quality inspector? This kind of stuff will usher in the age of the robot worker. Then we will all be out of jobs sitting at home playing with our knives.

Give Buck a call. Send it back.

All four of my 110's with 2016 stamps have issues except for the one I got from DLT trading.

I have had no such issues I keep seeing on here. One vantage from 2 years ago with 90 percent lock up. I took it in, they grabbed one off the shelf and it is perfect at 30 percent.

You say YET another issue... have you had more than one?

I purchased a 110 at Lowes and not only did it have leather sheath there were no problems with the quality of the knife, also how many of the 4 did you send back to Buck for the warranty?

I say "yet" as this is the 2nd one I've bought that has centering issues and more. And considering they said they would inspect it for just that specific issue, it's a bit disappointing.

None yet, I'll tell you one thing though. It is going to be one heavy box of knives for the postal services. :P

I thought this was funny.

Makael and I have communicated. I have made some quality statements in another thread. As I stated everyone has the right to ask questions, to show problems and make a general verbal complaint on the Buck Forum. Who better to give advice to folks with problems than people who have Buck knives themselves ?

Wallace and Lefty are just stating their experience so far. Folks can give them an idea where problems are common or not and HOW to get BUCKs warranty to kick in and fix or replace the knive. After that its up to them to decide what to do.

Lots of present and past Buck forum posters have sword and shield in hand ready to defend Buck knives. But mistakes happen and problems arise. As Buck supporters we are not offended when someone makes a complaint. We can express sympathy and give information on how they can get it fixed and ask them to return and give us a report.

Let's not make these things a contest to see who can skip the rock the most times.....300

FWIW I've reached out to Buck to see what they can do to resolve this issue. It will most likely come down to a replacement or refund.

Even with a company as good as Buck, there are still going to be issues from time to time. I bought a 300 series knife with the black scales and on the pile side the pin stuck up so far I could pick the knife up with it. The knife was so inexpensive I just live with it (and peened it down some). I did send Buck a nice note encouraging them to do better. They sent me a nice reply that they would do so. Buck makes so many knives there are going to be problems. I do not think those good folks purposely make a less than perfect product. Stuff just happens, people get tired, get interrupted, machines malfunction, and etc. That is why they warranty every knife they make. If these 500s were mine, I would send them both to Buck and let Buck resolve the issues, as I know they will.

Odd that I've never had an issue until the last two 110s I bought at a big chain store have off centering issues and really poor uneven secondary grinds one with some little spikey burs on the edge. I bought one to replace the other and it was worse.
I think I just hit a bad batch, perhaps someone was working long that day and was tired, I don't know. I can say it's certainly not the norm. Both are being shipped back to Idaho.

I can see that, on a couple of mine the clip point is ground heavily to one side. I'm going to wait til the holidays are over and let the mail system calm down before I send them in.
