Yet another sharpening question: Skipping grits?

I've been using the eze-lap 600grit diamond rod for a long time for field sharpening and touch-ups when doing work in the yard. My question is if I wanted to refine a machete edge for example, would it make sense to go from 600 then an ultrafine (1800-2000 grit) spyderco rod or am I spinning my wheels? Is it too big of a jump? Would it make more sense to use the fine rod (1200 grit)? Thanks in advance.

You would need to start at the medium ceramic, ceramics cut slow and can't handle large jumps in grit. It you had the main bevel low enough though you could microbevel with the UF after the diamond plate.
