Ive been useing my Sharpmaker for a couple of weeks now and I really like it.. On my CPMS30V Spyderco Native, following steps 1-4 on 40degs, it shaves and slash cuts cash register paper with no drag.. Are the ultra fine rods going to get me anywhere that stropping w/ green compound on either leather or corrugated wont? Im pretty sure Im going to buy them, but it'll be a few weeks till I can get up to Golden to grab a set..

I don't have the Ultrafine but if I were you, I'd consider the diamond rods for reprofiling rather than the UF. The diamond rods take away a lot of the frustration when the Sharpie trick shows you are not at the edge on one of the pre-set angles. I go from the white fine rods to a strop with green compound and can't see why you'd need more than that.

I own both the sharpmaker ultra fine rods and a Hand American strop that I charge with 60,000 grit green chromium oxide compound.
IMHO, now that I have a strop with compound I could probably live without the ultra fine rods.
Still, the advantage of having the UF rods is that they are more portable and I'll have them available when I can't pack my strop. But, a strop can do a more thorough job of polishing up a bevel and can attain much higher grit than the UF rod.

S30V does not have a sufficiently fine carbide size to benefit from the UF rods. I would use 1-micron diamond paste on a relatively hard smooth strop in order to enhance the edge. I probably wouldn't bother with S30V.

I would buy an extra-fine diamond bench hone to maintain an S30V blade. A 6" DMT Dia-Sharp would work for that size blade.
