It arrived today, a 12" Sirupati by Sher that's pure sweetness. The blade is noticeably thinner than my first 12" Siru, made by his brother Kumar, and, due to the narrowness of the blade ,the edge bevels aren't almost convex, they're fully convex. This thing cuts proper! The handle has a slight downward curve and the butt is canted back just enough that the upper point doesn't doesn't dig at all. Did I say sweet? Let me say it again, sweeeeeet! The icing on the cake was the karda and chakma, I've never seen nicer for form or finish. Either one of the kamis had some time on his hands, or there's an apprentice at Bir Ghorka showing much promise.

Bura will always be the master to my mind, but Sher is well deserving of credit and recognition for his work. Ain't got a khukuri by Sher yet? What'cha waiting for?

Greg

Sure thing Bruise, I'll just send you the one that I don't like. But you may be waiting a while.

Greg

Thanks for report from the field. Sher and brother, Kumar, made fine handles and fit them well. Also make best handles for kardas and chakmas.

Kumar and Sher seem to have a knack for making VERY comfortable handles. :)

Just got another winner made by Sher, my 18" AK with Horn Handle.

Fit and finish are excellent, couldn't ask for more.:D

Whatever they are paying him it's not enough..:)

I really like Sher's work, especially his unique khuks. The top is his M43i, M43 blade shape, AK fuller, khuk handle, steel furniture. Pretty close to my ideal khuk as I was planning to order a horn handle WWII with steel furniture.

The bottom is the chiruwa YCS with interesting wood handle, it is a darker, denser wood than normal. The blade is about the straightest human-forged blade I've ever seen. I'm not touching this one until I get ALOT better at sharpening and polishing.

(My typical crappy photo, sorry)

mPisi:

That M-43i is the perfect khuk, IMO. I haven't had time to do a write-up on mine. But, it passed all of my tests, including the dead spruce challenge, without breaking a sweat. And Bill is right - Sher makes the most comfortable handles.

The kamis remind me of marathon runners. One will be out in front for awhile, then another, and another. All are good and at times any one of them might be in front but it's generally the old favorite who will cross the finish line first -- and this will be Bura -- even if he can't talk, has only one good arm and has to hire a kid to pound for him he'll figure a way to get the job done and done right.

Bill Martino,

You are correct I believe, everyone goes through stages, and it doesn't matter what the job is.

But from what I have seen Sher is awesome. :D

MPISI,That m43i is looking real good,it keeps calling me!:D Whats the difference between the m43i and the m43?? Steel furniture??? Well,I know what to get next year. The m43i got my vote.:D ;)I would like to get one piece (Kuke) from each Kami. The one's I have are from Durba (16.5" WW2) and two from Bura (18" AK,15" B.A.S.);)

Justright, the regular M43 has a flat blade like a WWII, not the AK-like fuller that my M43-improved has. The regular M43 also has a chiruwa handle, usually in wood, with a unique shape similar to that of a Colt SAA blackpowder revolver. This pic shows a regular M43 on top, you can see the handle is a little different from the usual. The furniture is usually always steel on the M43s. Hope this helps!

The M43 and the M43i sure look sweet!Either one would look good on my wall.;) So i would guess the M43i is a special order?;) Thanks again,FRANK C....

The M43i was just an oddity that came through to Uncle Bill and he put it up as a best buy, I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Just stuff Sher likes to do, somethign different. I don't know what you'd get if you actually asked for one (in fact I shudder to think of what a kami would make of a "M43 + AK + khuk handle" special order :D). Best way is probably watch the forum closely for special things, especially around 9am Reno time.

Yep, but Uncle pulls some sneakys at times. Seen the specials in the afternoon, late morning, but never at night, that I have seen.

I think Uncle likes to post, get responses and get them out the same day. Really fast service. But, that's Uncle!!!!

Never at night. Night is reserved for Heineken, nickle video poker and trying to convince my favorite 5' 10" blonde bombshell 22 year old cocktail waitress that she's really not too young for me (when Yangdu is not watching).
