I just used the Chromium Oxide powder for the first time; love the results, hate the mess. I find that a little goes a long way, and even then some flies off to lend its green goodness to anything lying nearby.

I've read in some older posts that you can use neatsfoot oil to condition your strop and to help keep the powder fixed on the leather. I don't have any neatsfoot oil but I've got a can of mink oil laying around somewhere. Could I use that?

Probably could. It's just an inert binder.I have a strop that came from Germany & it came with a small tube of what appears to be Vasoline. It's a razor strop, so no other additives are used, but I'm sure that it would hold your powder just fine.

You can get a chromium oxide stick designed for strops from Lee Valley Tools (www.leevalley.com). Rubs on like a crayon, no mess, works great. Cheap, too. Lee Valley mail orders everywhere and you pay in the Canadian peso.
