Yet another UK Pen Knife availability question

Beyond the 200 collectorss models, it isn't. Note that this website doesn't actually have the knife in stock.

True, true, they're not in stock. But would you put an item on your site if you knew it was unavailable? It'll be interesting to see if any show up... If you don't mind me asking, is $80 about how much a collector might have paid for a numbered knife?

Ritt,
I believe that the price paid by the collector is negoatiated with the dealer. I know that NGK had a few numbered ones that were sold in the $80 range. This would be an excellent price since availabilty through Hennie haynes in the UK has it at about $117USD. If you're interested in one you should try a trade with someone in the UK. Many of the quality knives available in the US are quite expensive overseas.
YMMV
Chris

Yes I'm sure you may be able to do that even if the person has to buy the penknife to do the trade. it's £56 for us

There will probably be some numbered ones available second hand through ebay or here in the forums sooner or later.

And what's with that C97 Viele a bit further down on the same page? Am I the only one here surprised by that one?

<Carlos passes out large grains of salt>

The only way they could be selling them (beyond #ed ones) would be if they are importing them from the UK distributor and they couldn't do it at that price.

2/3 sized Viele - handled that one at a show - very nice :D

yes, but that was a proto. I don't know the specs of the production model

nah, patience guys. I bet spyderco will finally come up with a US pen knife, with a lock.

no need. everyone agrees it's fine without

I can't imagin the guys on BB ever selling their design team ones

I agree, if the UK penknife is ever made available for domestic sales I'd prefer it be unchanged from the UK model, otherwise there's really no point.

I have the Calypso Jr. in both Micarta and FRN, and a Pen Knife. To my mind, saying a Calypso Jr. is the locking equivelant of the Pen Knife is like saying a turbo VW Bug is the equivelant of a Porsche. They are similar sorts of things, but there's considerable difference in the details.

The issue of the lock concerns more than just the lock, it also concerns the pivot and the smoothness (or lack of smoothness) of opening/closing. In giving up the lock you also give up the smooth opening typical of Spyderco knives. So while I don't care for a lock on this knife, per se, I would like to have this knife with a smooth action, and that would require a lock. So ultimately I'd like a lock on this knife. Unless you live in a place where locking knives are illegal, there's no up-side to not having a lock.

Well, there is the whole novelty factor of a modern one handed slipjoint with a big honkin hole in the blade :D

at a local knife shop there is a Spyderco pen knife in the display for 129.99. is this price ok? thanks
