I saw the snow flakes coming down late in the morning and just had to get outside. Unfortunately, it had stopped snowing by the time I got out to the prairie. Still it was a nice walk though.

Beta had no problem romping around.

Looking around, I thought this would be some good bits for firestarting.

Little bits of snow in the craggy stuff.

A pretty cool widow maker tree!

Then I came across my little stand of evergreens that I keep trying to find fatwood from. Never any luck. Today, I made sure to photograph the needle bundles to i.d. it. My best guess is American Red Pine, 2 needles/bundle and growth form. Anyone else guess. Does Red Pine not produce fatwood?

Here I'm digging through a stump with the Walter Davis. That is one nice thing about dealing with a 3/16" thick x 4" blade. Don't really have to worry about prying on it.

It looked nice and dark on the inside but that was just wet wood, not fatwood.

Came across the hearth we used when I was teaching my friend to do bowdrill last week.

Looks like a good time. I think I am going to try and get out a day this week. Not working much, should be able to find some time to go out for a walk in my back yard :p

As always, great pics:thumbup: I think that knife has now seen more of Canada than I have (and I've driven through twice!):o:D I'll remedy that one day, though:thumbup:

Great Pics. Lovely looking dog you have.

The Walter Davies knife is good looking as well. Looks so at home in the outdoors.

About an hour ago while I was out feeding the beagles, chickens and gathering eggs It started spitting small snow flakes........ The ground is now covered and it is coming down. At the rate it is snowing I may get to play with my snow blade on my garden tractor

Awesome Ken!

Great pics. I love that Walter Davis blade. Glad you managed to take your pal out for some woods time.

Great tools, companion, and pics.

Ever hike the K&P trail up from the 509 to Calabogie? I used to cut firewood up in there and hiked the trails when time permitted.

Beautiful area. Saw many black bears up there.

Beatiful pics! At least you got to go out and enjoy the outdoors and work off that holiday second chin. Lol.

Yep, I've been to Calabogie. We got a lake up there on private lands that we do research on. Pretty area!

Great pics kgd! Both of you guys look like you're right in your element!

Beta reminds me of my Lab/mix, Benz. Same grey beard and all. Thanks for sharing.
