Hello folks! It seems like the gadgets and gear forum could be re-named the watches and flashlights forum!

Anyways, here's my question. I know NOTHING about watches. NOTHING! however, 2 watches have caught my eye. One is the Chase-Durer Special Forces Air Combat watch and the other is the Luminox Navy SEAL watch. Both are about the same price I think. My question is, what are the important differences between these watches? Why would it be good to get one over the other? What is the difference between the 1st gen. and the second gen. Navy SEAL watches from Luminox?

Thanks folks! By the way, I am just collecting info for reference and later use. I haven't the $$ to buy now, but info is free and much appreciated :)

The two watches are roughly similar in case size (40mm) and face size(approx 25mm), with the CD being thicker, also, like 13mm compared to the Lumi's 10mm, but the Luminox is far more readable, especially at night.

Even tho the Chase has tritium hands, the Luminox is like 10x brighter(just a guess, but it's a very noticeable difference).I haven't seen anything brighter and easier to read in the dark than a Lumi, especially operating one handed.

On the other hand(pardon the pun) the CD is a chronograph, but one that is actually quite hard to read at a glance, while the basic Lumi is a standard analog non-chrono watch. So if you want a chrono, take that into account.

The CD has an all metal housing and bezel, and is also heavier than my basic Lumi, which is some metal and some plastic or carbon fiber, I'm not sure which.

CD offers an upgraded version of the Air Combat, but it's like $499. I've seen the Air Combat on eBay for maybe $150-180, but the basic Lumi goes for closer to $100 if you shop for it. Lumi also offers a number of interesting options, like Ti cases, hich I don't think CD does.

The CD is ok, but less readable and comfortable than the Lumi. I've beaten the crap out of my Lumi, and it looks it,with its chipped crystal and funky case, but it's been running perfectly in and out of water, workouts, and on the street.

Hope this helps,

Crayola,

I'm a recovering watch-a-holic (not fully, but getting there). I switched to collecting custom knives because it is so much "cheaper". If you're going to be a serious watch collector, try and win a state lottery somewhere. Good luck!;) (and if you need some "seeds", I have a few Breguets, Omegas, and Zeniths that are looking for new homes).
