Yet another what knife ....

... should I get thread.

Yes folks another one, although mine is a little more specific.

I've been looking for a nice custom folder. There are plenty around but I've bought enough knives to know what I'm looking for when I buy a new one.

The knife I want might not exist but, if you don't ask you'll never know. Maybe there is a knife maker out there who wants a challenge, whatever, but if anything comes to mind, let me know.

Here are the specs.

Mandatory:
Must be a user, not a fancy safe queen. I want to be able to carry it and use it like I'd use my Sebbie or SNG.

Must be priced under $300 (Either US or Oz $$$)

Left handed

Approximately the same size as a Spyderco Calypso Jnr or small Sebenza.

Optional:
I'd prefer a hole rather than a stud.

Not too concerned about locking mechanism but mild preference for lock back.

Blade shape drop point or leaf or similar. A small Sebbie or SNG have the style of blade I like. PLAIN edge. Definitely not tanto.

Blade steel can be any good stainless type. S30V is fine.

Handle can be any of the "exotic" woods that are commonly used.

So, any suggestions, or have I lost the plot and searching for the impossible?

There is a custom maker from Kentucky, up the road from Kit Carson, and I can not think of his name at the moment. A lot of his ads start out with "Don't you buy no ugly knife!" He makes a couple of small knives that are meant to be users. Never held one and only seen them in pictures, but have read some good things about them. As soon as I remember his name I'll post it!

A small custom folder under $300 US, and LEFT handed THAT is not very likely. Good luck. I hope you find something that is perfect for you. I will keep my eyes peeled for what you are looking for.

Thanks guys. Yes, TKC, I know it's a big ask but, as I said, if you don't ask you'll never know. :)

The maker I refer to is A.T. Barr. Apparently no web page as I googled his name and came up empty for a home page, BUT there are a couple of links to see his knives. This one, www.customknives.com shows a bunch of different makers. There is a Wayne Clay knife that looks very nice. Give atry and see if you can find something.

Sorry, he does have a web page and it is the link I provided. He apparently makes and then also sells other makers knives...pretty neat!

Thanks a lot, good stuff. I knew you guys would come up with something.

The One Eyed Jack is the knife I had in mind when I first read your post. Looks like he is no longer taking orders so it would have to be the secondary market to find one, if it even appeals to you. Good luck in finding what you seek! Let us know if you do find something.
