This one's got me puzzled!!!

I just pulled out one of my knife storage boxes (cardboard temporarily) and decided to check out some of my Case knives.
I was shocked to see that they all had a strange film/residue on the blades & bolsters.

These knives were last out about 1 yr. ago and treated at that time with a Tuf-Cloth. Then wiped with a clean dry rag and stored away.
I tried to remove this film with a clean dry rag and it would only smudge around. I then tried the Tuf-Cloth again and the film disappeared and the knives shined.
I then began inspecting my other knives that I haven't seen in a while and found this same thing on at least 80 % of them.

What's up with this?????

I have posted before regarding my concern for using this product on a long term basis (20 yrs or so) and now I'm really worried.

Have any of you seen this??

Any thoughts welcome.

Paracelsus, what was the name of that wax that you mentioned recently while responding to a post. If it wasn't you that posted, sorry. I just seem to remember you mentioning a wax that is used in museums that is completely safe for use on all materials.

Raptor,
Did the knives have any corrosion on them? If not, sounds to me like Tuf-Cloth is working.......

No corrosion present. Just this strange film.

I don't get it.

Raptor:

The name of the wax I believe you are looking for is "Renaissance Wax." I only know of one internet dealer that sells it for $20.00 per container.

You can get Renaissance Wax from Sheffield's Knifemakers Supply in Fl.The price is $8.00 for 2 oz.The phone number is 1-800-874- 7007 for orders or 1-904 775-6453 for info. Dave

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to try Renaissance Wax next. maybe that will work better for me.
