Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster. Went to the shop today to try out sebenzas and left with a yojimbo. Just something about that compression lock and overall ergos that spoke to me. But It definitely needs a deep carry clip to cut down on what will stick out of the pocket - especially tip up. Casey Lynch doesn’t have black clips in stock at the moment, but it got me wondering if other colors might work for a clip? Most likely I’m going to keep it stealth, but I thought it was worth posting to see if anyone out there has done anything interesting with this knife or has seen some tasteful examples.

As much as I like deep carry clips, I prefer the factory clip on my Yo2’s for ease of deployment. Due to the shape of the knife, there’s very little that protrudes from the pocket even with the standard clip.

Are you carrying tip up or tip down? It definitely would hide more of the handle tip down and I might switch it to try it out for a bit.

Congratulations on the Yojimbo and Welcome to the obsession! :D

Thanks! It certainly is an obsession. The list never seems to get smaller. Take one knife off the list, add three more. Sigh.

Congratulations on your Yojimbo 2! I hope it serves you well.

I designed the Yo 2 so the clip carry height would allow optimal hand placement after the draw, leaving the thumb of an average-sized hand poised next to the Round Hole with enough range of motion to open the blade completely. With that said, I understand that hand sizes vary and so do carry preferences.

The slickest deep-pocket carry option I've seen for the Yo 2 is the "Recluse" from 5x5 Combat Solutions. It's basically an aluminum backspacer that installs into the butt of the knife, replacing the standoffs. The standard factory handle screws thread directly into it. The clip then mounts to the very end of the backspacer--almost like the clip on the Perrin PPT. That puts the knife very low in the pocket.

"Foldover" clips that use the same mounting holes in the knife handle typically have to be fairly wide and have a large hole to allow access to the screw heads. Even though the knife is deeper in the pocket, this makes the clip more obvious than the stock clip. Some deep-pocket clip designs are narrower, but only use two attachment screws instead of three, sacrificing some stability. The 5x5 Recluse solves all these problems and is extremely well machined. The standard clips that come with it are black, but 5x5 also offers clips in khaki, denim blue, and red (for the trainer version of the Yo 2) to blend with the color of your pants.

Here's a link to the Recluse page of their website: https://5x5combatsolutions.com/shop/ols/products/recluse-exo-tool.

Stay safe,

Mike - thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me. I would have never expected, of all people, to hear from the designer of the knife. Your commitment to the community speaks volumes of you, and it makes me even more proud to own your knife. You obviously know this knife, and I appreciate hearing more of your design philosophy. That being said, I'm going to leave the knife as is for now and practice deployment from the pocket before making any changes. If I decide to make a change, well then you've introduced me to an option I would have never even heard of and that I will definitely buy (if needed). I will say that as collectors, we sometimes focus in on uniqueness or 'coolness' of a blade (Yo2 checks off both of those boxes in strides), often forgetting that everything is designed with a purpose in mind. Like I said - I went to the store to buy a sebenza, and I left with a yojimbo 2. The finger grooves on the inkosi were very uncomfortable for me - the finger grooves on the yojimbo 2 just melted into my hand. Thanks again for your commitment and your contributions to the community.

Take care,

Chris

Are the black blade Yojimbos going to be regular production ? I have been waiting for one since I missed the first batch up here in Canada. Love my
CF S90V Yo2 :-)

Hey, Gorky:

Yes, they are regular production. The first batch sold out very quickly, but you should start seeing them come back into the market within the next few months.

Stay safe,

Mike
