Yojimbo differences

The pictures kind of say it all.
The grinds, the overall size, weight, clip, and engineering.

Yojimbo 1 has a FFG and more angular/ sharper angles of the blade shape.

Yo 2 hollow grind and curvier blade shape on spine. Handle fatter and curvier at the butt especially.

The Yojimbo 2 fits better in the hand for me due to the palm swell, and seems to be more robust in build.

I received a Yojimbo 2 a few weeks ago and so far I'm pretty happy with it.
Flips right open with solid lock up and feels pretty good in hand.
I haven't used it all that much yet but its looking like its going to be one hell of a utility knife.

The Yo 2 is definitely more solid in construction. Seems more balanced in weight with the CoG close to the middle. The heavier blade makes it much easier to flick out if you are so inclined.

Note the indexing divot on the Yo 1. Spine jimping on Yo 1 but none on Yo 2. The curved spine indexes the thumb nicely and if you want jimping it's easy enough to do it

I just wish that they put the spidey hole up higher away from the handle when closed, and made it larger, like pm2 size.

If they did that and called it the yo3, i'd replace my yo2 immediately.

Absolutely agree with this. I use a marble-shooting deployment method and the PM2 hole is perfectly placed and sized. Not so for the Yojimbo.

If I come across a used Yo2 for a song, I'll pick it up and at least mod the G10 to expose more of the hole - I just can't and won't mod the ones Mike Janich signed for me.

All in all, I love my Yo II. It was a bit gritty to open initially, but a bit of work on the detent fixed it. I smoothed some of the sharp corners on the G-10 handle and blade/hole. The grip is very comfortable and secure. The hollow on the back of the blade is very comfortable for the thumb or fore finger and makes for very precise, and if needed, powerful tip use. The tip goes where the thumb or finger points. Good for following a straight edge. The tip is very sharp and prone to breakage if misused, but it is not designed to be a beater utility knife or bushcraft knife.
Sometimes I find that the compression lock pinches my hand upon opening. My $0.02 mini-review.

I have a perfect new YO2, and I have to say it is a bit too regular people unfriendly. Blade is huge for handle which is great. I just bought it and never use it. I like the original Yo1 better. Too bad prices are so inflated.

My experience has been different. Most people just think its a box cutter. I have had people comment on my Delica and Griptilian in a negative way, but not my YO2.

Most people who have commented on the Yoj 2 I had said it looked like a stabby stabby

Interesting. Nobody ever gives mine a second look. If anybody asks I just say that I got tried of disposable razor blade knives and that i like it because it has a perfectly straight edge and a fine pointy tip.

That said, I LOVE my Yojimbo II. I have carried it pretty much every day for about 18 months and use it for everything.

I wish it was more friendly. I get bad reactions. The knife is the smoothest I've owned, and that to me, is really impressive.
