Well, I was browsing some knife websites the other day, and at Mike Snody's website I came upon these awesome pictures (I hope this isn't any sort of copyright violation or anything).

The custom version of the Yojimbo in CF is simply stunning, and wouldn't it be great if Spyderco considered a run of Yojimbos in CF...hint hint... ;) ;) ;) ...

Anyways, on the practical side, I'm sure Sal would know, is it impractical to utilize a Compression Lock with carbon fiber? Are there structural issues and so forth?

I also know that the Yojimbo is a fairly new model, so usually Spyderco waits until a model is a little more established and all the glitches are worked out before special runs are made...but still...a Yojimbo is CF would be sooo sweet!

Hopefully Sal & Co. will keep this in mind :D and I definitely know I would buy more than one if this ever came to pass!

Yes, that knife is really sweet. However, that CF looks totally different than the CF I have seen spydercos in (non customized). It would still be very cool and a good idea I think. A good idea, because with all the people clamoring for a black Yojimbo, they could satisfy them as well as those just wanting to have the CF for the cool factor.

IIRC, the CL, especially in MBC strength requires steel or Ti liners. CF is supposedly stronger than G10, so as long as you replaced the G10 with CF, you'd be ok.

I'd LOVE to see a CF Yojimbo, as well as that fabled CF Meltdown Lil' Temp...

The Snody-Janich custom version looks like it has a longer blade as well, which no doubt improves its looks significantly too...

According to the specs it is not significantly longer, but the tip angle is lower and the angle in the spine occures closer to the handle. Unfortunately, the customs are REALLY hard to get! I tried.

Hmmm...so can anyone give me a definite answer as to the feasibility of a Yojimbo in CF actually occurring? Is the CF too hard to machine for a Compression Lock?

According to bigon, strengthwise the CF should hold up, but are there other problems with Compression Lock + CF? ...come to think of it, there haven't been any CL knives with sprint run in CF...but then again its a fairly new lock...

Everyone go vote for the Yojimbo in this thread!!! :D :D :D :p

Very unlikely. AFAIK there has never been a custom collaboration in CF. All CF knives have been in-house designs. Also, the Yojimbo just came out in blue, with black also on the way. A third variant at this time is really unlikely.

Hmm, those are very good points...well I sure can at least hope someday...someday... :)

An industrious individual could make CF scales for a current Yojimbo. Would take some work, but that's why I qualified this with industrious.

Back to the future?
What was the most popular/best selling Spyderco model back in 2004 when this thread was posted?
