Bought a Yojumbo in s30v recently with the intention to mod it after seeing some other people do it.

I have a grinder and some hand tools for knifemaking, and I recently started modding some of my fixed blades, but this was my first time modding a folder.

Modifications:
- Removed the humps on the top of the blade, ground to 800 grit, left it sharp for scraping
- Removed the bumps in the bottom part of the handle and reprofiled to fit my hand
- Removed some of the 'choil' so it doesn't run into my thumb when closing the knife
- Rounded the front and back ends of the handle for comfort and looks
- Chamfered the G10 where my index finger rests
- Slightly chamfered and rounded off around the entire handle to smooth it out

Most of this could have been done without disassembling the knife, everything but removing piece of the blade 'choil' part, but I took it apart before I started to make the process easier and I would have had a harder time cleaning up if I didn't.

On the whole I really like the mods. The knife feels much better in the hand and I like how much sleeker it looks.

I know there are reasons for SC/Janich making the knife the way they did, but I honestly feel that the mods people are doing is how the knife should have been made from the factory. Maybe someday they'll do a Yojumbo 2 and take some cues from the modding community.

I like the factory curve in the spine for it's purpose .... but your mods came out nice, very well done ! The choil looks useful. I do recommend a 5x5 backspacer/clip.

Thanks! I really like those 5x5 clips, but I carry my larger knives tip down so it wouldn't work for me. The 'Scarab' tool that looks like a flat screwdriver would be sweet though, but it's not available for the Yojumbo.

I like it. Really brings me back to when I did mine.

Oh yeah, hello! Thanks! Your post was one of those that inspired me!

So much better imho. I sold my jumbo because it was just not comfortable.

Couldn’t agree more as this was my second YoJumbo but that finger groove was way off the mark for it to be comfortable. Bought another and the first thing I did was get out the dremel. Contoured the finger groove a little at a time until it was comfortable in any position just grabbing it. Thought I was going to have to remove more but it really wasn’t necessary at least for my hand .
Now I love this this M4 BHQ exclusive and that ghost G10 that I like to call it is the frosting on the cake.
Edit : I didn’t want to take to much off well as little as possible since I didn’t want it to be to narrow and wanted that thickness to have a controlled feeling with such a beefy knife . Think I’ve accomplished that 👍🏻
