Despite my extensive knife-snaffling travels, during which Ive seen tens of thousands of knives in antique shops and flea-markets, I am yet to come across a single old example of a Sheffield-made Barlow. Astonishing isnt it? I can only assume that the overwhelming majority of Barlow knives were exported. Thanks to my good friend Charlie Waynorth however, I now have my very first old Sheffield Barlow, a lovely IXL Spearpoint with saw-cut bone covers. Auspiciously, the knife arrived in a package which reached me on August 1st Yorkshire Day, and it wasnt the only extra thing I had to celebrate, because Charlie had also included two more knives.

Knowing my love of the Lambsfoot pattern, Charlie had generously sent me a titanic 4 1/8 William Rodgers with a secondary Pen, and beautiful jigged bone covers. It is in fantastic condition.

Last, but certainly not least, was one of Charlies new Lick Creek #14 Barlows in smooth ivory bone. I love the size of this gorgeous little knife, and it went straight into my pocket, accompanying me to see ScruffUK and ADEE yesterday. Where, during our delayed Yorkshire Day celebration, it saw its first use saving my beer from a kamikaze mosquito! Scruff captured the occasion for posterity!

Thanks so much Charlie, you have made an old Yorkshireman very happy my friend
