August 1st marks a special day here in 'Gods Own Country', it's Yorkshire Day.

I thought it might be might be fun to share your FIRST Yorkshire-made knife with the forum and help celebrate this historic day.

Here is my FIRST Yorkshire-made knife, a John Watts 'Easifold' advertising knife. It was found among Granny Smith's possessions after she passed away.

"I, scruffuk, being a resident of the West Riding of Yorkshire declare:

That Yorkshire is three Ridings and the City of York, with these Boundaries of 1141 years standing; That the address of all places in these Ridings is Yorkshire; That all persons born therein or resident therein and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshiremen and women; That any person or corporate body which deliberately ignores or denies the aforementioned shall forfeit all claim to Yorkshire status.
These declarations made this Yorkshire Day 2016. God Save the Queen!"

Good thread idea Thom :)

Until I was in my early teens, I'd never owned a knife made anywhere else but Yorkshire! My very first knife was a Richards 'Little Chief', like the Radio Jack you bought me a couple of years back, but a lot simpler. I had clasp knives from my grandfather, who favoured Joseph Rodgers, and my first Lambsfoot. I don't have any of my earliest knives unfortunately, but I notice that the patterns I carried in my childhood are still among my favourites in middle-age. I like a simple well-made penknife, clasp knives, and the Lambsfoot obviously, and I still like a bottle-opener - on the right pattern of course ;)

Here's a knife like the Rodgers 'Bunny Knife' my grandfather often carried, with some of his stuff

Cheers Jack.

Thanks for joining in with such lovely mementos.

Have a great day.

These are among the first of my collection -can't remember which came first so here they all are and a fair feast for the eyes they are too.

Sheffield is in Yorkshire (West Riding). ("Riding" comes from something like "Thirding"/"Threeding", I believe.)
So, my first Sheffield knife...

Thank you Jake! Both sides match well with regular thickness too. This knife is very well finished, the wrap around spring is a nice detail too.

Regards, Will

I bought this in London in 1976. Pretty definitely my first aquired: "I cut my way", it said on the blade.

Have you not got a Yorkshire-made knife P?!

Very special Jake

My first ever pocket knife from the early '60s, and still going strong.

Impressive stag covers on that knife!

Excellent  I was similarly pleased with this one Charlie very kindly gifted me :)

I received another nice gift from Charlie today :) More of that later ;)

They still make that pattern in Sheffield SP, I remember having one myself many years ago

I bent the cross on this one throwing it at a catalpa tree. When it hit point first, it really stuck. I decided it was too nice to throw, though, and a little dangerous with the sharp clip.

Some nice showings folks.

Not sure if one or two are FIRST Yorkshire-made's you own or oldest though.

Looking forward to m'tea! Yorkshire pudding with Yorkshre Curd Tart and a Fat Rascal to share for pud.
Doing it proper :D
