So far so good-
I got this nice Plumb hatchet at an estate sale today. I used Jack Black's scout knife to whittle some new American Hornbeam wedges for the lovely old handle. Both tools have a lot of life left in them.

Beautiful handle on that hatchet.
Congrats on the acquisition.

Oh yes, that one is a keeper for sure -thanks for letting us have a look, good to seek Jacks/ your knife back at work as well, gee its looking good too!

Great job on the scout knife:thumbup:
That plumb hatchet is an incredible find, I recently re hafted one and the bit took an incredible edge. They were/ still are some really nice tools! Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Great find Jer, great thread title too! :D Glad your new knife is proving useful ;) :D

I really like that one. I've been wanting to find one something like that; all the new stuff I see in the local hardware stores looks like junk.

Thats a neat Plumb at a great price, wonderful patina on the helve. Axes and hatchets are my other addiction.:o I don't want to talk about it. :D

Best regards

Robin

Looks like a TrueTemper Plumb? I have one that looks almost exactly like it. Your is sporting a much nicer haft.

The stamp is a double rectangle with "genuine" above, deep and clear, and "Plumb" below, larger but as a series of horizontal lines like you're viewing the letters through louvers. (Both all caps). I'm not very good at keeping track of who owned "true-temper" when.

I've thought I had enough of these, but no. Not at this quality and price. The edge needs more work, then it will cut like a knife (trying to stay in-forum).

Hi SP, You Can't turn down a $5.00 classic ;-) Although if I could stay away from yard/garage sales I wouldn't have 50 asst axes and hatchets ))) Not sure if you have this identification site, all the old marks are right at the top of the first page.

Hard to decide what goes in the bug-out bag, isn't it? Thanks for the Yesteryear link.

Thank you, Sir. I have never researched mine and it looked so similar. Thanks for the info. I find it hard to turn these down at sales myself:D

Thank you, Robin!! Nice link.
