Before I started lurking (and learning) here, if I had a knife that would push cut paper I thought that I had a bad-ass blade. Now push cutting even newsprint isn't enough. In the last four months I've went out and bought four new stones (two Dia-sharps) and a strop and compound from Bark River. Now a days I spend more time sharpening, re-profiling stroping and generally just fussing with my edges than I do crusing the web looking for new "I wish" blades! It's like an obsession! Now I'm cursed, but my cutlery is much, much happier! (and more fun to use):D

I don't think it CAN get worse. I'm already driving my room mate crazy with the sound of steel running across stone.
So far I've only got one knife to whittle hair, Paramilitary in S30V.

I am lucky....my wife puts up with me. I have made 2 strops one green and one white, both are good. My edges are polished, and very sharp. There is a certain feeling when my slippies just run through cardboard like it was paper. I have the edgebug too, I know how you feel. Most will not understand, but all here will. There are many worse things to obsess over, so enjoy this hobby and feel good about it.

I believe this sickness is contagious. Got my Benchmade 710 to whittle hair as well. I cut alot of cardboard at work and recently bought one of those Gerber EAD's with the replaceable razor blade in it. My regular EDC's go through cardboard better than the Gerber.....Much to the amazement of my co-workers.

I am with you my brothers.....Morati, you need to take on an apprentice at work, and show him the knife life:D

I envy you if you're getting S30V to whittle hair. It's the only steel I've ran across than gave me trouble. (Not even D2 @61R gave me trouble).

However, it will get worse.

I've got some Dia-sharps and some good scrap leather on the ole Santi-List.

Welcome to the club! lol

There are not alot of better ways to spend your spare time. (maybe one) I also get pleasure from getting a knife sharper then the manufacture does. Like has been said many times before. The only thing a dull knife is good for is to cut yourself. Keep em sharp and enjoy life's pleasures no matter what they might be. We all have some sickness and this one feels good.

Same here got the bug about a year ago, my arms have bald spots, my nails have cut marks in them, my shop is filled with little scraps of paper, but my knives are all really sharp, no problem skinning out deer anymore. My parents are sick of the sound of knives running over stones but i'm fine with this bug.
