You can get ONE Fehrman...which would you buy?

I have been eyeing the Fehrman line for quite some time now and really would like to order the "Final Judgement" and "Peacemaker" at the same time. Unfortunately, this would be pushing it price wise for me right now. This got me thinking that perhaps I should go for the "Last Chance" or "First strike" as better "all around" tools for backpacking, hiking or camping. I will eventually get all four but it may take some time.

Which would you buy first?

I also like the Shadow Scout. It reminds me a little of a Straight Handled Satin Jack.

If it were me, and I could only buy one, I would definitely go with the first strike. There is not too much you cant do with a blade that size.

I suppose the Peacemaker is the entry level Fehrman. I've got one and it is a great little knife that feels like good all rounder that ought to handle most things if used sensibly.

Also depends on the size of your hands. The Survival series look like it has much broader handles.

I have the Last Chance (5.5"), Peace Maker (4"), and the Shadow Scout (6"). They are all extraordinary knives. The edges take tremendous abuse (yes I used the "A" word) without a wimper and keep their edge extremely well. I use the PM and SS as a stacked hunting set; knives you don't have to worry about making contact with bone during field dressing! The LC I use for my generic hiking/camping/field use knife. You really don't need anything else afield except a machete or larger bush tool. I carry a KOA Bushmaster with it and have never felt "undergunned".

I chose to buy a Knives of Alaska 9.5" Bushmaster in D2, it's an excellent blade (holds an edge much better than many of the steels I've seen used on machetes I looked at) and bridges the gap between a cheapo machete or something higher quality like the Extreme/Final Judgement at 1/3 -1/4 of the price ($99 for a 9.5" blade in D2!!!!!). If I lived in a third world country like Africa or something then yes, I'd not hesitate to spend the extra money for the bigger Fehrmans.

In my mind, I haven't found a better knife than the Fehrman's for hard use field knives. BTW, I'd buy the LC first. To each his own.

Hope this has helped.
