You can still fly with knives as long as they are not in carry on, right?

A knife made out of hemp is ok, IF you have a doctor's prescription for it.:D.

Anyone catch the signs in front of some of the Airports on the News?

"ABSOLUTELY NO KNIVES BEYOND THIS POINT!"

And they were positioned outside the front doors...

Part of the problem comes from the news media. The FAA clearly says that knives may be carried in checked baggage on their website. The media, however, is just saying no knives and the people who are putting up signs are probably not even reading the directives that the government is sending out. I recommend that if enyone is traveling, that you download the FAQS on the FAA website and that you pack up your knives well before you get into the airport.

I am confused also, sometimes the media is the worst place to get accurate information.

Gone are the days for carrying my Spyderco Dragonfly onto the plane with me.

For what it's worth yesterday they should than unopened pack of Mach 3 shaving replacements were pulled from CHECKED baggage. This particular airport, and I don't know which one, was radnomly checking CHECKED baggage.

If curbside check-in is gone and you can't take a knife past the front door of an airport then logically you can't even get a suitcase through the door if you've got a knife in it.

Trivial in the face of the thousands of lives that were lost and the hundreds or thousands more that will die before (and if) this ever comes to an end - but this does not bode well for the pocket knife industry.

Having checked on this, the FAA says that as far as they are concerned it is all right to take knives in your checked luggage, but they also said that it is totally up to each airline company to set their own regulations. So if the airline says no then it is no.

Here is a link at FAA web site on Knives:

Can I carry my pocket knife on board? No knives or cutting instruments of any size or material will be allowed in the aircraft cabin. Knives may be transported only in checked baggage. Airlines will no longer provide steak knives for on-board food service.

On the Custom forum, Bill Burke mentioned that he had been told by United Airlines that as long as the case was locked you could take knives with you in your checked luggage. They said you should be prepared to open the box when asked to prove the contents are what you say they are.

I guess no more traveling with nice knives. Whose going to put a good knife in luggage that might get lost.

Also, I was thinking... If I had been on a plane (like the one that crashed in PA) my knife would have been my only chance against the hi-jackers.

Oh, right, they wouldn't have had knives either;)
