I won a Dozier whittler fixed blade from one of Ren's contests.

I'm not a fixed blade kinda guy, so I want to pass it on and keep the good Karma going. The problem is I haven't quite figured out how.

So here are the parameters, I need your ideas:

- The knife should go to a deserving person, or be used to raise money/awareness for a good cause.

- No auction cause BF doesn't do them.

- Must be fun and involve forum people.

- I could just sell the knife or give it away, but that's booring!

- I'll ignore any kind of "give it to me" suggestions and will make you automatically ineligible for the contest.

- I'd consider a passaround, but needs to be different some how.

I appreciate your suggestions. I'll attach some pix later.

I'll toss in a couple of ideas, as it's not me that's deciding I can get pretty liberal with the ideas.

One idea would be a raffle with the only condition of entry being a Bladeforums membership uprgrade, then a random number is determined and the member that has the number closest wins the knife.

You could also do a lotto-passaround, with the proceeds going to a nice charity.

Heck you could even hold an essay contest and give the knife to the member that submits the best explanation as to why they should get the knife.

To me, knife lovers have 2 problems:

- Stupid knife laws somewhere.
- Sheeples (that make stupid knife laws :P )

This should be a good heading.

I like raffles. For the price of a ticket you get the chance to own a knife that would have cost you a lot more, and most people can afford to purchase a raffle ticket.

As far as having as a condition, the purchase of an upgraded membership is concerned, how could I get involved in such a raffle? You would be limiting the number of people that could get involved.

The proceeds going towards a charity would be my recommendation.

NO RAFFLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An auction to benefit a good cause is not absolutely out of the question, but any form of raffle is. It is not possible to comply with all the taxes, fees, regulations, and prohibitions of gambling in all fifty states not to mention counties and municipalities.

I gave away a small Busse knife in a forum wide lottery drawing because I ran into legal trouble trying to find a way to run a raffle for charity here on BF.com. EACH state has a difference set of rules involving charity fundraisers and gambling, which the purchase of a ticket for a chance at winning a larger prize seems to fall under... And taxability, permits, international laws... Heck, I finally just GAVE it away in a drawing, but tried to bring about awareness in others to give to their favorite charity. Did it work? I couldn't tell you, but I like to think so. Just for your perusal, I'll post the link to that thread, all of the contest rules and legal crap is still there, ya might find it helpful. Good luck with your contest! Anything Bob Dozier made is worth winning!!!! :D I love his knives.

I hope this helps you.
Take care!

You could always donate it to the Forums, for permanent passaround, or even throw it into the pot for the revolving custom passaround purchasing fund. I know you give a lot to the passaround forum already, but that's where the people, who appreciate all you do, hang out! Maybe it will drum up some more traffic for that forum. We could always use new blood over there. Otherwise, it may benefit one person, or maybe one charity, but with 'keeping it in the family' the number of people who benefit will continue to grow.

As a way to make it different, I guess you could require any participant to REALLY post a review. Most reviews end up being 1-3 sentences posted in the passaround thread. I think we should require much more info and opinion from folks. (This is a pet peeve of mine, anyway.)

Of course, this is an idea you'd expect from a passaround junkie.:D I'm interested to see what others suggest.

How about a "Most Creative Photo with a Knife" contest? People could then vote for the winner.

How about a pass around with the agreement that each person on the list will donate $50 (or other amount)to a charity of their choice. That type of pass around would require all involved to be honest due to the fact that it would be an honor system as to wheter the donation happened. Might be fun though and a good way to encourage donations to a lot of causes. No worrying about breaking any laws or rules on the forum.

This could be a pirate give away, which would allow for the following:
-You must support the site to enter. If you already support it, then good for you, otherwise drop a few bucks and try your luck while supporting the site.
-Forumite involvement could be posting pirate apropriate material with all number sumissions (pirate stuff is fun for everyone:D ).

I second this idea....Cuz pirate stuff is FUN

I also like the idea of submitting pictures with knives but that is hard to judge

Hmm ... I don't know if this has been finalized yet, Dave, but I was thinking; you seem to like the charity idea, and you won the knife (albeit from another forum member); how about you pick the charity and have a lottery, with participation being a contribution of $X to the charity of YOUR choice within a certain time window? (As some of us know, not all non-profits are created equal). You could have people forward to you their contribution receipts for proof.

I like the knife picture contest (they'd have to be original pictures), I bet everyone could have fun with that.

I have some ideas myself... maybe I'll take a go at it!

Hmmm.....
Interesting contests are the best. Something fun that everyone can participate in.
Here's an idea........
Stupid knife drawing contest. Whoever can draw the most entertaining knife wins. Purely arbitrary by vote or by your decision. Think - Billy the Tran meets Dark Ops meets Kliff Stump meets Bud K. You have to draw a picture, using only microsoft paint, and tell about it's features and maybe an entertaining story surrounding the knife.
The more I think about it, the funnier it might be.
Good Luck with your decision.
:cool::thumbup:

WM that's a cool idea, maybe they would need to write a review with some "testing" pix.

hmm. what about "Best Lego / popsicle sticks / cardboard, etc." knife with advertising copy, pix and testing review??

I bet everyone would draw crazy mall ninja knives with guthooks, flashlights, deathrays and coffee makers :)
