Here's a fun what if that me and the boys play sitting over a few beers. The answers change frequently as manufacturers come out with new products.
You win the dream knife lotto and get to pick one knife, any knife, from a major manufacturers catalog (we play the same what if for custom's,small manufacturers, etc.,let's keep this one to the big boys) what would it be? and WHY? Fixed blade, folder, automatics, hawk, axe whatever your heart desires,as long as it is a mass produced blade, but you only get one.

I'll start off.At this moment, actually for a while now,my choice would be the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri San Mai III. Why? I've always wanted a high end Kukri and the Cold Steel is a cutting BEAST! I haven't seen another that would out cut it.Sure there are prettier Kukri's available, but can they do what the CS does? I'm always impressed with CS products.I own and frequently carry a Voyager Tanto 4",a Recon 1,a Mini-Outdoorsman and several others have passed through my hands, usually into my brothers pocket! So there's my choice. What's Yours?

I would pick the most expensive knife I could find, sell it, and then buy several decent knives that suit me. ;)

A large Sebenza 21 with mammoth bark inlays and raindrop damascus:thumbup:.

Why?

Beats me. My last $1,000 custom didn't quite scratch my itch, and I really like carrying my Insingo and Umnumzaan, so I figure I'd upgrade on top of that.

I would pick the absolute most valuable knife on the market and then sell it and buy something I would use and take a trip to the Caribbean with the profits :)

I agree with Foilist. There is a limit to insanity. My limit for a knife is @ $300.00.

SEMPER-FI TIL I DIE

If we're takling a manufacturer versus a Demko or something special like that I'd go with a Strider SMF of some sort . . .

I'd really like to get my hands on a Strider RW-3 and an original Busse Steel Heart.

Spyderco "orange" Paramilitary 2 - Have one on order.

What I really want is a:

Scott Cook Lochsa
w/s90v blade
w/double SS thumb lugs

I think "major manufacturer" needs more clarification. I assume it would refer more to Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw rather than Rockstead and whatnot.

a microtech ultratech, or executive scarab. Why? because im in New York, so getting one already is a pain in the ass, and because the mechanic in me finds OTFs to be one of the coolest examples of mechanical operation. Gotta have one to play with

Randall 13-12. Why, do you really have to ask?

I guess by that definition I'm insane.

EDIT: I see you included customs as well. In that case, I'll play. It's a custom DDR that I've had on order for a while.

I'm thinking about a cold steel Natchez Bowie. Not the most expensive knife but one that I've had my eye on for a while. I just think it's a great representation of the old style bowies.

Realisticaly, I'd go for a Strider. Probably an SMF or maybe a second SnG. I wouldn't consider Hinderer a big company but I would want an XM-18 3.5" flipper more than anything.

Randall Made, Orlando FLA. Why? Because they go up in value every year, and it would seem that the only way to lose money on one is to pay too much going in. I've owned close to 900 of them so far, and can count on one hand the number I've lost more than $20 on. The photo is part of December's haul...I think there were actually 12. Are they the 'best' knife out there? Depends on what you consider best. Do I use them? I've got two users, other than that, no. Should I sell them and move to the Caribbean? Been thinking about it... ;)
