You guys are a bad influence

I thought tactical knives were addictive but they do not hold a candle to slippies. I came into this forum with a SAK farmer, a Case Trapper, and a Sodbuster Jr. I had an old Opinel then jackknife makes his thread about them and I ordered 2. This has grown now all added up between in hand and on order its almost 30 traditional knives. My wife says you guys are a bad influence but then she realized that slippies are much easier on the wallet than tacticals. Every pattern is like meeting a new person, you figure out what it is good at and then learn to appreciate the personality of each individual pattern and knife. These knives really have a soul and that is my favorite part about it. As I wrote previously I am spending a month with knives similar to my grandfather's knives and I am starting to understand why he never converted to tactical knives. I just ordered 2 more in the process of writing this, thanks guys.

What helps it to have an understanding spouse. ;) My wife simply looks at me and asks "Another knife?" or "Don't you have one of those already?" but other than that she doesn't seem to mind. I love that woman and I bet you appreciate yours as well. :)

What to tell the better half when she questions your knife habit:

1. It's cheaper than drinking.
2. it's not like you're chasing women.
3. It's leagal.
4. You're home at night instead of down at the bar.
5. Because of number 4, she knows where you are at night.
6. A sharp knife is actually handy to have around.
7. Would she rather you be doing # 1 and/or 2?

If there's still a problem, have them sit down and I'll tell them a good romantic story with a knife in the background.

I agree. These guys are a bad influence. They have encourage me to spend money. My collection is twice as big as it would be if it was not for these guys. But there is not a better group of people. So I put up with the bad influence, just to hang out with these guys. You have to take the good with the bad. :-)

What helps is to narrow it down to a specific brand or handle material.:)

My better half thinks all my Old Timers are the same, cause to her they look the same regardless of pattern.. So I can pocket a brand new (new to me) one right in front of her and she doesn't even catch on.:)

The same with my other vintage knives. Same color jigged bone, to her they are all the same.

Sometimes she does ask how many knives I have. I always answer truthfully.

"I don't know".

Bad influence? Yup. We take our job very seriously here. Personally, I blame the mods. ;) After all, at my old job, we'd look around and say "Who's in charge? They did it."

thx - cpr

I can sympathize.

Largely because of Thomason, I've set my jaw for a Case Peanut. We actually have a Case/Chicago Cutlery store nearby, and so I called out there tonight to see about a price on the red bone CV. Price was as good as the internet deals I've seen, and I'll get to support a B&M and hand pick. Outstanding. Pics to be posted when I make the Peanut leap.

Those of us who "collect" slippies understand the cosmic flow of karma that surrounds our addiction. The more people we can sucker into encourage to start collecting them widens the spread of bad karma backlash from spouses. This allows us to buy the smaller box of chocolate, or the smaller bunch of flowers, the cheaper restaurant for dinner, etc, to appease our spouses than we would had you not joined us. And thus allowing us to spend the money saved on the next knife..

I caught the traditional bug too---still have the Spyderbug though. I'm just getting more knives. :D

Good influence or bad influence? I guess it depends on who you talk to! ;)

Completely understand, I started with a single Boker Copperhead found this forum and bam... now,I'm down to one draw in the Gertsner Chest that has anything with a pocket clip and/or thumb stud or Spyder hole. The good always outweighs the bad in end.

Collecting them?

Wait till ya start cutting with them, then understanding will happen :D.

In all that knife fighting experience I have had :D, they are not as good as the zombie killer knives, but they sure can cut.

I started carrying them when I quit fighting with knives. :D. My dad talked me out of the knife fighting when I was 4. ;).
