Ok so I'm new to this site, and I'm wondering how to end or delete an old thread. If you want to make fun of me for this, go ahead because this is the internet so I don't care. I searched the site FAQ, etc and I didn't find anything. Thanks for anybody who actually helps.

IIRC, you can't delete threads and in order to close a thread, you must be a paying member.

Only mods can move threads and, on very rare occasions if ever, delete them. Anyone with a platinum membership can close their OWN threads, (but not move or delete).

Hi daggerman99 -

The forum is a software called vBulletin - it is written in a language called PHP, and uses html and style sheets, with a MySQL database to store the thread text, user info, authorizations etc.

The owner of the forum, or the Admin, controls what privileges that the users, moderators, supermoderators and co-admins have.

In the case of bladeforums, they have in place a graduated schedule of privileges based on a heirarchy tied to your level of paid membership. You pay more to get more privileges.

However, in the case of your inquiry, i.e. removing threads, that is a function normally only granted to supermods and higher.

That makes it important to the casual user to think about what they post, and only post information that should be scribed into stone for the ages.

best regards -

We also have a policy of not deleting threads in the Discussion forums unless they are spam or highly offensive. On occasions where deleting is the case a copy of the thread is moved to the moderator forum. The private forum moderators (makers) have freedom to remove threads.

....

Just so we are clear, the forum mods can handle those duties in their assigned forums. Supers can do it site wide.

If you need help in a particular forum, use the report this thread to a moderator button (red triangle at the top right corner of the post), and someone will get back to you.
