Ive been waiting for a Rat3 for a long long time. I finally am getting one from when i orderd it from BrigadeQuartermasters before Christmas . They said it will be in about 1 week. I know you guys dont like the rat3 anymore but to me its such a great knife. I only hope its made to same specs as the origionals. Ive been waiting since Christmas. I know the RC3 is suppose to be the new wonder boy out there and im sure it is but please give that little rat3 some credit. Ive been wanting one so long so bad and now im getting it. I hope you guys dont hate me for this. I only started loving the rat knives from reading yalls post. I now have a TAK and now im getting my rat3. I just cant keep up with you guys, haha,. My rat3 is the 1095 version and its going to be just like my baby. For what its worth you guys are great. Ill get a RC3 when I can afford one but im gonna be happy with this for along time.

Who said we don't like the RAT 3 anymore? We don't like the threat of being sued. We don't like someone stealing our property. We don't like someone lying. We don't like the fact that the knives being shipped to dealers and distributors now are pirated versions of our knives since Ontario has been sent a cease and desist and they're still using our name and logos and NOT paying ANY royalty - which is flat-out theft. We don't like the fact that Ontario has attempted to steal our trade names through the US Patents and Trademark Office. But we never said we didn't like the RAT 3 knife. When built to spec you won't find a better knife out there than the RAT 3. The RC-3 does have a better fit, finish and attention to detail but there's nothing wrong with a properly built RAT-3 - it's the jerks behind the manufacture of it that's the problem.

What Jeff said.
Unless you're here to stir up some crap, don't worry about it.

I have a RAT-7 from the days before RAT Cutlery existed (at least the web site only had the jungle training courses on it), and it's terrific. It's surely built to spec, as the handle slabs are perfectly flush with the tang, it couldn't be fit any better, the edge bevels were symmetrical and it could shave hair out of the box. Only two gripes (very minor) are that the finish comes off easily, and the sheath sucks. I'll deal with the finish and I bought a Spec-Ops sheath to cure that problem.

However, Ontario tried to do some dirty business, and I won't do business with them again, unless they drop the whole nonsense.

I love my RAT's,not counting the RC3 or RC4... I have RAT3 1095 ,RAT3 D2,RAT3 RAM HORN,RAT7 RAM HORN,RAT7 1095,RAT7 1095 ,TAK D2,RTAKII,RAT1 ,and I have kept them because they are great workhorses,I just will not buy anything directly from Ontario due to this BS lawsuit...Take care Tony

Jeff

Thats about as well said as it could be. There is nothing wrong with a RAT 3 or a TAK, nor investing in them speaking strictly as a consumer/user) both should serve you well. I have a TAK, but my final preference went to the RC-4. Ultimately the problems between RAT and Ontario should stay between them, and yes I understand and agree with the boycott, and even support it, but again, as Jeff said there is nothing wrong with the RAT itself.

Just remember that for every Ontario product you buy, you are required to buy two RAT Cutlery products :)

All the RAT designs are very sound, thus the reason for us coming out with some of the models through RAT Cutlery. No one here is bashing the Ontario RAT models. The bottom line is I am bashing the business ethics and integrity of Ontario's management.

I ask anyone this question: How would you feel if someone came to your house, stole your vehicle, put a huge sign on it advertising that they are now riding around in your vehicle, and refused to pay you a dime's worth of rent or compensation for stealing your vehicle, then ran a few traffic lights with the camera that catches the tag # and you get sent the bill for someone else's screw-ups in YOUR stolen vehicle? Maybe then you can see how we feel.

It doesn't mean they stole a bad vehicle, nor is it the vehicle's fault.

why are we still getting dumbass posts like this? Do folks NOT READ the other threads?

Probably because the original posted was really excited about getting his RAT, but didnt look at the other threads or postings..... maybe?

MrCoffee is right. I'm not upset with the poster at all. He is excited about getting his new RAT 3 and we appreciate the post. I was simply responding to him stating why most folks are not buying new Ontario RAT knives at this stage.

Onward! ;)

I'm not sure how people are even getting the idea that the Rat / Ontario models are NOW hated??

To use Jeff's car analogy, Yes, his car got stolen and every pedestrian who gets hit in the crosswalk only sees Jeffs car, not the thief at the wheel. That part sucks granted.. BUT regardless he still designed the car and its a great vehicle. Just now with a Jerk-off behind the wheel who wont put a cent in the gas tank.

Gratz on your incoming knife though and I hope the specs are true. Should serve you well for a LONG time.

I like all my RATS, whether made by Ontario or Rowen. But I am not buying any more Ontarios, and I have been using their knives for years. I wanted a Hossum Retribution, but ordered a Blade Tech instead. It is a very unethical thing to use other people's designs and name without their permission or paying royalties.

RAT's ARE great knives but I will never buy from Ontario again for what they are doing. RC is a better product and much more deserving of my business.

Um sorry guys. I didnt mean to offend anyone. I wasnt trying to upset anyone here or stir anything up. Bye.

Dude, you don't have to leave, no one jumped on you. Stick around and talk about you RAT. However it was YOU who started off with "You guys might hate me. . ." And we're just explaining what we don't like. It isn't Ontario RATs, or people that use them, Jeff said it quite well:

All the RAT designs are very sound, thus the reason for us coming out with some of the models through RAT Cutlery. No one here is bashing the Ontario RAT models. The bottom line is I am bashing the business ethics and integrity of Ontario's management.

It's Ontario's business practices we don't like, not their product or the users of their product.

Come back,I have been around for a long while and just because Ontario is trying to steal Jeff/Mike Designs ,some folks have sold off all Ontario Products they own and can be alittle testy..I love my Ontario RAT's and I keep a RAT3 D2 in my Tackle box,Excellent knives,so please dont leave, come back and share some info and talk RAT with US !!:D

My RAT3 is one of my favorite knives - I like the RC3 more, but have more attachment to my RAT3. It is by far the most used sub 4" knife that I own. I still carry it frequently, as the shorter handle is nice for EDC, and the D2 holds an edge forever. Congrats on your new blade!

I guess I've been living under a log, again, but I just found out about the RAT/Ontario problem. I don't buy a lot of knives (what is a lot of knives, anyway ), but you can count on my participation in the Ontario Knives (not province :() boycott.

I recently bought an RC-3 and am very pleased with it. The purchase was made in conjunction with some advice from Jeff and the dealer, Cumberland Knives. Both are class acts, IMO.
