I looked at a H.F. store Saturday for a pyrometer. They had none and the clerks looked at me like I had a horn in my forehead when I asked about one!
Did someone on this forum post about getting one at a H.F. store? or is my memory shot  If anyone knows the item # I would appreciate letting me know e-amil or pm is fine
Thanks

Arthur is right. The stores probably only have 25% of the stuff they sell online. I find stuff on their website and always call ahead first to make sure they have it in the store. Give them the part numbers off the website and they can pull it up on their computer & tell you if they have it and how many.

Tom, your memory's ok. It's been mentioned here before. I looked on their website and couldn't find the durn thing. It may be discontinued, it may just be I'm dense.

The thread said it was a store item not a catalog item, thus I went to the store. It is 90 miles away (I happened to be in that town for another reason)
Well poopy I will try e-bay then. now that my forge is up and running, it seems logical to know what temps I am dealing with!?! (logic not always my forte' though)

Try the Omega website. You can also find the handheld "wand" thermocouples at Grainger

I have never used any type of pyrometer and in most blacksmithing projects throughout history they were not used.

Back when I worked in EMS we had a saying "Treat the patient, not the heart monitor"

HF calls them Digital thermometers. The good one is the Cen-Tech 92242. It does not come up on a search right now,but check the store. They are in and out of stock. The lower temp non-contact one is the Cen-Tech 93984
A search on the HF website shows others.

I just picked one up in Montgomery, AL awhile back. They also had it in stock in Macon, GA. As mentioned though, it's not on the website and they are somewhat less than helpful, although I did eventually get what I wanted. I bought a probe on eBay, and it's been a big help for me. Well worth the money and the drive.

I picked up one at H.F they were around $30.00 but that was a couple of months ago and they only had two then.
