It appears that BladeForums has a larger audience than we might imagine - looks like Dave Canterbury monitors the Becker sub-forum and the W&SS sub-forum. He posted 2 videos of techniques that were previously posted here.

His 2 videos, posted about a week ago: here and here.

Previously posted Becker video (back in 2012) : Better than a Machax.

Previously posted W&SS video: How they hangin'

You just never know who might be lurking :D.

Wow great find doc, enjoyed your vids as well - about to watch Daves. brad Pitt you ain't pfft your too modest, I think if Dave C is reading this he would agree your a very intelligent looking gentleman.

And as for your thread title as soon as I read it I could swear I could hear my wife's voice, something she is always telling me, "someone is always watching, get back inside". (Often ducking out for quick errands innapropriatly or barely dressed).

I had actually just watched Daves videos yesterday and today, and I really liked the hoist. I watched your video now, and loved it as well. In Daves video he mentioned he wasn't sure about using prussic knots on the mule tape (makes sense), but I see that you used the prussic loops and were able to continually hoist it farther without a problem, which I found really useful to see.

And it just goes to show the excellent resources that are found here on BF that even people like Dave might find something new to learn :). So thank you kindly Doc, I'll remember this, where it came from, and hopefully how to use it. Just another tool to keep in that mental toolbelt.

As always Doc, I am in your debt........ I missed these before ....... Much appreciate your take........

BTW your Cincinnati Machax was industrial hard chromed.... It is or should be about 220 thousandths thick...... I think that that particiular incarnation of the blade may be the best...... .210 to .220 with the hard chrome was a winner........ I like the new KA-BAR iteration better than the Cammillus version for sure.....The Camillus at a generous .225 is a bit clunky and the edge geometry is a trifle off....... The geometry of the KA-BAR is just about right....... It is a bunch spicier and makes the most of the balance inherent in the blade shape.......

Thanks again, Doc.....

I glad I watched the Simple Machine video - that butterfly knot seems pretty strong...and easy to tie.

Mule tape? Hmmm...I wonder how this would work with a hammock? Has anybody ever used this stuff?

Yeah, id never heard of mule tape either, but have since gone and looked it up. It looks strong enough foe a hammock easily (most seem to be ~1800lb test). It even looks to be cheaper than the spyderline and whatnot that by the foot at least, but you have to buy hundreds of feet, so at a quick glance it looks to cost more overall, unless you have a use for a few hundred feet of it.

i love me some alpine butterfly knot... animatedknots dot com has a good showing of that (plus an app, i love it)... wish i invented that ;)

need to scope the videos in a bit...

which reminds me, i need to do my yearly review of the video with the Y shaped trap line :D
