Your wife books a hotel room that is not pet friendly, and you elect to sleep in the parking lot with the dog in the SUV with the seats out, rather than not bring the dog. I could not get over the nervous look on her face, and the determination she had to jump in the Yukon, Gracie did not want to stay home again. Last night was somewhat of a sleepless night, because the homeless peoples kept searching the trash can next to us for bottles and cans. Gracie felt the need to stand on my chest and bark at them safely through the window. I had to bring her because we were already out of town for 3 days, and had to leave again for just one night. I had enough of hotels anyways. The littlest kids were happy, they got to sleep with mommy. I visited with the homeless peoples that late morning while walking the dog around the hotel grounds and we all got a good laugh.

That's a sweet story. Dogs are very doting and protective. Having grown up in a town with many homeless, I can say that many are very nice individuals. I've sat down and split a sandwich on more than one occasion, just having a chat and hearing stories.

cj,
I would have done exactly the same thing.

Years ago when I was a kid my parents and I would go on vacation and sleep in the truck whenever we couldn't find a place that accepted dogs. Those were goods times actually.

Sometimes we'd stay at Motels so we'd have direct access into the room from outside and sneak in the dog (at that time a Great Dane named Rex).

I don't go anywhere overnight without my dog.

If your dog is reasonably well trained and doesn't bark without cause, buy him a vest off eBay that says "Assistance Dog," and ignore the no pets rule. If management complains, threaten to sue under the ADA. As long as your dog has been recently brushed and bathed, has no fleas, and doesn't piss on the wallpaper there shouldn't be a problem.

All your vacation destinations are pet friendly. Unless it is is business trip or overseas your dogs go with you.

Dogs go to the vet more than you go to the doc.

There are few days during the year when your dogs do not go for "a special trip" to swim or play with other dogs.

You have six months of chicken strips stockpiled since Costo runs out of them occasionally.

You friends with dogs will not leave town without them, unless you are in town so they can drop their dogs off. When they come back their dogs are thrilled to see them but are reluctant to get in their car to go back home. :D.

You spend a good bit of your free time organizing other dog lovers for the purpose of lobbying county officials and writing proposals for off leash parks.

You know you're a dog lover when . . .

Your dog eats better than your neighbors.

Your dog has so many toys you need to buy a giant Rubbermaid tub to hold them in.

You let your dog ride in the backseat of your new car.

Your dog doesn't sleep in a crate or in his own bed -- he sleeps in your bed next to your feet.

That reminds me,I have to make a 450mile round trip weekend after next to pick Zeke up because Moms going away for a week, then 2 weeks later take him back again.:D

Ahhhh, the things that we will do for out beloved dogs!!!

2 Winters ago, I was getting ready to go to Alaska on a traveling assignment, and with my dog. I went to AAA to get a TripTik. She said you are driving to Alaska? I said yes. She said why don't you fly? I said because I am taking my dog, and would NOT subject him to that. (Unless he could have the seat next to me.) She thought I was completely nuts for DRIVING to Alaska with my dog. She said what you dog people won't do for your dogs!!! True story.

It was a life goal to see Alaska & drive there!!! It was an amazing journey.

My truck has smart airbags, and does not weigh enough to for the front passenger airbag; so he sits up front with me. H also wears a doggy seat belt which keeps him safe.

You build her a stair so that she can get up on the waterbed on her own and sleep there even when you are not home.

I like it ...much easier than trying to impersonate a blind person by wearing sunglasses and carrying a white cane and having to buy a harness for your dog.
