You receive wood in the mail that you don't even recall ordering :o. I just got a package from Burl Source that I don't even remember what the heck it was that I ordered.

Apparently I ordered some red-ish colored wood at some point . I guess like any other addiction it's possible to just black out when you're indulging. :p

Matt,
I fear you have entered the twilight zone of knife makers; or it could be that Mark is messing with you. Its been known to happen.

Just take in a little more 02 and you will feel better.

Remember you live in New Jersey. Things like that are perfectly normal in that part of the US.

Two blocks? Lacewood and Bubinga, maybe. He ran a special a few weeks ago for $5 for two blocks.

Nope got them, I remembered them. I'm actually trying to get a knife done to put the scales on as mu current project. Getting the scale off from the HT is a PITA though, I now see another benefit of stainless.

This is a case of what is commonly known as blackout burl buying.
The next stage is when I meet you at a knife show and you tell me you have accumulated a lifetime supply of wood and then you buy more. It happens to even the strongest so don't feel bad. (I am just teasing)

I think the wood was the camphor burl you had me send to K&G for stabilizing. Does it smell like medicine?

Oh Ya! We want to know how that worked out. :)

Mike at WSSI did some for me with a disclaimer. The smell suggests the process was maybe less than perfectly successful. Camphor is tough stuff to stabilize! :D

The stuff Mike did is harder than it was when it left. As with all things, it's probably somewhere in the middle.

Rob!

Yep has a kind of funky menthol-ish smell. I honestly didnt even remember it. I actually had to go back through my subscribed threads to find it. Then I realized I didn't even pick a block which was why I probably don't remember. Maybe from now on I should just make an expense account with you. Where I just send you money and you either bank it in my account till something good comes up or just send blocks when the payment hits.

What an odd coincidence. My order for the same camphor burl you were sending to K&G for stabilizing never made it to my house.

You say that jokingly, but there are a number of knife makers here who do that.
