You never know what life's going to bring you....

Dad passed away 2 years ago. When he passed, Mom wanted me to go through his various collections and take whatever I wanted and let her know prices on everything else so she could sell it to pay for expenses. I was pretty much focused on just helping Mom get through the ordeal of the funeral and everything that goes with the loss of a husband/father/friend, so I wasn't paying too much attention to what I was keeping for myself.

A week or so ago, I was going through one of the boxes I had gathered at the time of Dad's death. Turns out, Dad liked Kabars too! I found the little Kabar Tactool bayonet in the box along with another half dozen or so Kabar bayonets for pistols too!

Some may recall, I purchased a Tactool to round out the collection not too long ago. So now I have a matching set. Or more appropriately a father and son set.

I miss dad a lot these days and wish he was still with us.

Sorry for your loss Turbo. But I'm glad that you found a nice keepsake of your Fathers

For sure turbo, sorry to hear of your loss.

Cool find man. My dad passed away 32 years ago this December. He was only 48 when he passed. Still miss him something awful. I do know the feeling. So sorry man.

Sorry for your loss.

A good way to honor him is keep the tradition going and keep them.

Most of the time these days when I’m in the market for a new knife, one of the most important boxes I have to check is will it be something I want my children to have someday? Knives are something they associate with me, with our time together camping, with learning what skills I can teach them. Finding a knife that belonged to your father is a gift. Using it and thinking of him is the kind of thing that dads wish for. Enjoy the surprise gift, and enjoy the memories of your dad.

Sorry for your loss...

My dad died in 2015 after a two year cancer battle. Funny how many questions I had after he died...about knives, guns, family stories, stuff. You would have thought I'd been bright enough to see it coming and start the asking a little earlier...but I didn't. Trying not to make the same mistake with my mom, but it's not quite the same.

May peace be with you...

Good story to share here turbo. Sorry for your loss; but at least you have one more thing to remind you of your father. Hope it can uplift you during the times when you’re feeling a little down.

It touches something in me to have you value that “gift” from your Father that I had something to do with..... Although my own Pop died in’74 I still think of him and quote him often.... The Vikings had a saying ”No man truly dies until his word fame dies”..... So make sure you remember the good stuff and the funny stuff and pass it on to your offspring and hopefully he will live for a long, long time......

All my best...

Ethan

P.s. Pop loved to do haiku and mayhap this is appropriate...
