Eric had an older brother and they were raised by a single mom.
When I was in 8th grade he sat next to me in Science class. He stuck next to me through many fights in Junior High and vouched that I didn't start them.
We stayed in contact and spoke once in awhile during high school. He enrolled in the ROTC in high school and loved it. He didn't go to College to become an Officer like I did. He was excited about becoming an MP when he graduated.
The last time I saw Eric was behind the theater of Plano East Senior High School during a hot day in May of 1999. As I was walking to my car we saw each other and stopped and spoke to each other about what the future had in store for us. He told me about shipping out to Basic in a few weeks.

It really dosent seem like it happened that long ago. I often wondered what happened to all the guys who joined up after graduation.

Eric was killed by a roadside bomb Wed Oct 10th 2007.

I'm sorry for your loss, Dave. It hits close to home since I'm your age, and I know a few people over in the sandbox. Smoke and prayers for his family.

My smoke and condolences for you and his family, and my heartfelt gratitude to him and all our heroic servicepeople for their service.

Thanks to Eric for standing up and doing the job. May he find peace.

Condolences to you and his family.

Thanks for posting this - puts things in a little different perspective coming from the forum than the news. It's always good to remember the real people and their real sacrifices.

Plano is 5 minutes from me, but I am about 8 years behind you in school.

Sorry to hear about your friend, I wish the best for his family.

(My name is Eric too, lots of Eric's on here.)

I'm sorry Dave.
We have lost a great many great men and women in the war for freedom.:(

My parents called me not to long ago. They saw it on the News that he is survived by a wife and two infant children.

This is something that I did not know. I knew that this couldent be his first tour as that he enlisted in 1999 right out of High School, so he knew what he was getting into. Afterall this is War.

However, I didn't know about his family.
It makes me sad that his children will only have pictures and his mothers memories to make up for their loss, and at the same time I am glad that Eric got to experience such things as the love of a wife and children in his lifetime.

He is one of 12 friends I had in High School that enlisted right after graduation. If it wasn't for my mother being adament about going to college I would have gone off with them. I really makes me wonder what happened to the rest of them.
