Well guys, I have the privilege of stabilizing a lot of beautiful wood that eventually ends up on those custom knives you love. I love doing it but I have to tell you the urge to stabilize everything around me gets the better of me sometimes. I have managed to stabilize a cigar( which Jerry tried to smoke :eek:). They won't let me throw in a rabbit or squirrel. ( They say it will make a mess but I guess we will never know :()
I need some ideas of things to try. What would you guys like to see a handle made out of.
 
Bacon.

Or ham. Ham might be better as you can get bigger slabs. If you can do bacon or ham (or maybe a pork chop) I'll place an order with the Custom Shop now. :)

Can everything be stabilized?... maybe I'm incorrectly thinking of suspending random stuff in resin, but in that case, here's what I think would look cool: coffee beans, wood chips, pencil shavings, grass or moss, cordage, something reflective like shattered pieces of a mirror or CDs, printed circuit boards, cardboard, my wife's credit cards and checkbook, sponges, onions, coins, hair, sand, that plastic netting you guys use to ship satin and double cut finished knives, bicycle tires.

I think there are a lot of people that would love to see that. I am guessing that she would still find a way to make it work. LOL


Thick cut maple cured bacon handle. Hang on I need a bucket for the drool. :thumbup:

Maybe pork jerky would work better than high moisture content stuff like bacon/ham? ;)

Oh, and if this was some of your work, thanks, it made our wedding day that much nicer!

What would happen if you stabilized bone or stag? Not sure it's necessary... but I'm wondering what it would look like.


Dog needs a stabilized tennis ball...
 
How about layers of bacon ?

Or screen door material ?

The alligator teeth are still some of my favorite, I sure would like to see more of that ?

I think the cholla cactus skeleton is pretty cool looking, and would be great stabilized. Or, how about the solid part of a pine cone?
 
How about a SK handled w/ stabilized brass from a .50 cal.?
I suppose all you would really need to do would be to fill it w/ resin.

Still, it would make for a sweet KC blade. :D

Actually I have done some bone. Makes it a lot stronger and allows us to add color. I am not sure the dog would like the taste but then again they lick there own butts so who knows. LOL

There have been some great ideas. I can't say that I would ever try a twinkie, couldn't bring my self to ruin one of the greatest snacks ever made. I guess I better stock up if they are going out of business. If that happens you will see the real life Zombie Land. I will search the country for those delicious yellow cakes of goodness.

How about making a leaf micarta? You could use different colors... Giant teeth would be cool, or maybe :eek: how about stabilized...brains?
