 Back in the day most young men carried a knife, usually it was a Buck.Nowadays when I search a young guy on the job very few carry a knife on them anymore. When I do find a knife on young man it's never a Buck! Some times they get scared that I found a knife on them, not realizing I consider this normal!Buck has come out with some great carry knives, but could they do a better job marketing them to the younger generation?

Your right, I love Buck and everything about the company but if there is one critique it is advertising and marketing. The website is a prime example: sign up for emails/newsletter and dont get them, new product no where to be found. Not too many brick and mortar stores except big chains which with exception of BPS have a limited selection and dominated by imports(at least in the SW Pa tri state area). I think the Buck "mall ninja" selection is better looking than spyderco, kershaw etc, but who would know it unless something leads them to check it out.

now officially stepping down off soap box-I'm a traditional folding lockback guy at heart to begin with-what do I know.

From what i've seen, many of the younger people that carry knives like the tacticals. Typically the knockoffs that are made in China that are inexpensive?

Back in the "old" days, anyone that was "cool" carried a 110 on their belt.

Fritz& Peter you're both dead on,when I do come across a knife being carried it's normally some made in China tactical knockoff.Today a guy had one that was marked Smith&Wesson on the blade,(a made in China junker). He told me he got it at sporting goods chain store for about $30.For around the same price is the Buck Vantage Select.Much better knife, made in the USA,lifetime warranty! Buck makes some great high value knives, but I rarely come across one out on the streets.

My litlle opinion is about the lock of a knife and steel.
During of last years became very popular hard powder steels .
In Russia for example Benchmade is popular thanks to Axis lock.
In a consequence of it in Russia many knives of Benchmade are bought.
Many young men understand and want new knives locks and modern materials on edges.
They are ready to pay for it.

I've noticed in Russia there is a current trend for quality. People want the best, not the second best or third best, whereas in America many will settle for second or third if it is lower priced.

I think this is a backlash or reflection to the Soviet era when you could not get high quality unless you had special connections, which was rare.

Today, (in general) Russians want the finest and will pay more to have it. Quality over quantity. Am I correct?

Yes you are absolutely right.
Precisely so occurs in Russia now.
I could not write better.
But in Russia there are many studying people in metal working.
And they are setting a fashion to many other people about stuffs for knives.
