Which one item of survival gear do you consider the best designed for for it's purpose{s}?

With me it's my Leatherman PST.

I would argue that it is our brain. But some people simply refuse to use it.

Hoodoo

The low, hoarse purr of the whirling stone—the light-press’d blade,
Diffusing, dropping, sideways-darting, in tiny showers of gold,
Sparkles from the wheel.

I have a number of really cool pieces of kit.

My WSI Hot Spark Firestarter P-60.

My US mil, Canteen, Cup and Stove System.

My Victorinox Swiss Tool.

My nature designed Fatwood.

My SAS LRP Pack.

My TOPS Shadow Hunter.

Cliff Stamp's 52100 MEUK.

There are probably more, kit is cool stuff.

I have to go with Hoodoo on this one - but I know you meant tools. I got a leatherman PST for a present and thought "Just what I need - another gadget.." Surprisingly I use mine about ten times a day at work, and it's always in use in the bush too.

Original Leatherman Tool -- but I plan on upgrading to the Wave soon. Then a machete.

Knife and Pot. Though I would second the brain coming before those. Knife, any decent quality knife, is far better at cutting things than anything I could create in the wilderness. And a pot is far better at heating liquids over a fire than anything I could create in the wilderness. Other than those things, I could create reasonable replacements for just about anything I needed.

1. Get warm.
2. Get dry.
3. Help them find you.

I can't say there's any one piece of gear that does all that but my Buck 110, magnesium fire starter and an emergency "space blanket." make a pretty good team.

Of course it is a given that your mind is your greatest tool... however, in staying true to the question my greatest manmade tool is:

a folding blade knife.

Hi Guys,
I agree 1000% that the mind is your greatest tool, but I don't consider it an "item" since the brain can't be separated from your body without dire results!

I've been thinking this over and over should I pick my knife, my firestarter, my whatever...

I've finally hit upon the one thing that would be the best "designed" item I own, my WOOL CLOTHING! It was designed by nature, spun by man. It keeps both man and sheep warm in wet and dry weather and resists the wind.

I just wonder why sheep don't shrink after they dry out after a good rain!?!?!
