I was curious what everybody perfers as far as plain edge and serreated edge goes...

I should add that I meant what is your blade choice for every day, beat me up type work.

I used to favor combo-edged knives, but I now am in the plain edge corner. Among other things, they are much easier to sharpen.

I used to carry only combo edge knives for an edc. Plain edges were just not "cutting" it so to speak with some tough materials. Now that I've got my AR it has completely changed my mind. This blade just cuts with a vengence.

I believe your gonna be over-run with "plain edge" responses.
I was talking to my supplier the other day and he was telling me that he's getting more plain edge knives out the door than any other format in the last coupla months.
It seems serrated and combo-edges are on the way out of fashion.

I hope you're right Misque, maybe some good trade deals will come my way for FULLY SERRATED knives! :D :D

If a plain edge is sharp enough it would be rare that you would even need a serrated edge. But when you go with the combo you have less of the plain edge to work with.

I guess I look at it like the old "Jack of all trades, master of none" scenario.

My first high-end knife was a Benchmade Spike, with a partially serrated blade. That was also my last partially serrated blade. I really prefer plain-edge for almost anything, due mostly to the fact that it works better for most everyday chores, like cutting tape, slicing cheese, sharpening a pencil. I also find a plain edge much easier to maintain.
