I was just over at a friend's and he had a real nice Brend on his desk. It stays there as his 'desk knife.' I thought it was kinda weird he'd just leave it there, then I noticed I leave a Ryan dagger on mine. I was wondering what knife you guys/gals leave on your desk and is it one of your favourite?

my desk knife/letter opener is a WW11 german SA dagger, double edged, about 12" long w/brown wood handles, and an inscription, alles fur deautschland (spelling) nazi eagle on handle, made by carl eichhorn, solingen, along w/sheath, brought home from italy by my dad in '45, he got it off a captured prisoner of war, along w/some other stuff - still have a P38 w/a 90+% holster, and a '98 mauser KAR, in great condition,(and a luger and berreta too) have NEVER seen a better one that was original, was brand new when my dad ' appropriated 'it in WW11 from a stack of them as big as a house and sent it home in pieces lol - but that is my'desk knife;its a lotta knife - its also my favorite, because of its history, my dad kept it in the closet for years, i dont think it had been sharpened since '45, but i touched it up a little, a great knife(looks a lot like a gerber mark 1 on steroids), w/a lot of history, some guys at the gunshow had one similar, but not as good a shape, for $200 if memory serves, but of course, its not for sale.............

Desk knives for me are on a constant rotation. Usually its the knife that's in my pocket and when I'm answering email, net surfing, or writing I'll have it out on the desk. When I want a little break from typing, I'll "knifesturbate" a bit :D Right now my custom Talonite EDC and a MT Kestrel are laying on the desk as I type :)

I like the chive as a desk knife. It's great to flick and it's little sharp blade is great for mail.

Lately I've had an old Model 30 Benchmade Bali and a new Model 42. I guess every time I sit down to type, I have grant illusions of tandem twirling! I've hurt myself a lot lately......

A small Victorinox, with just 1 large blade, and a combo flat screwdriver/can opener/bottle opener all on one blade.

I forget wich model name though.

My desk knife changes depending on what I feel like - I store most of my Brend and Emerson Customs in a locked draw in my desk!

Regards,

Ed

Boker Stiletto Hunting ... very nice quality for $25.

SIFU1A,

you can count yourself lucky, knives with a history are great!

I have no special desk knife/letter opener but almost always some knives lie on my desk. At the moment:

MoD, Razorback
MT, SOCOM Elite and Vector
CS, Safe Keeper 2
CRK&T, large Crawford/Kasper

Schrade Oldtimer 340T Middleman. . .

For carry or general knife use what a POS. But, kicks butt when it comes to openin' envelopes, cuttin' tape, and general administrative tasks/play.

Besides, it's a cheapie knife and still can't see buyin' a knife over $100 for the sole purpose of openin' envelopes, cuttin' tape, and performin' general administrative tasks. :p

My desk knife of the moment is a knock-off of a Grohmann that I bought from Herters when I was 14, lo those many (30+) years ago.

I recently found it while going through a foot locker of stuff I packed when I went off to join the Corps.

I actually bought 2 of them, one for me & one for Dad. I don't think he ever even sharpened his. It's probably still in his sock drawer. :p

I have 2 Jaguar balisongs that grace my desk. I got them back when I ran across Clay's site, and they have been on the desk ever since. I still grab them and flip them around a bit here and there. My technique still sux, but they don't seem to mind. UPS guy laughs every time I flip it open to cut the top of a box. He says I look like a guy who is trying real hard to gain control of a really sharp bar of soap. Looks like these things will stay at the desk.

Ryan, nice knife.

Hah! Knifesturbate. :D That describes me at work...talking on the phone and practicing left-handed opening and closing of whichever folder is along that day. About once every other month or three, it seems, I suffer some sort of mere fleshwound from said practice, one requiring a Pooh Bandaid to cease the hemorraging. Pooh to insult myself for being careless.

My desk knifes at home tend to rotate too... right now, I have a very knifesturbatable Kershaw Onion Avalanche, and a damascus David Broadwell "letter opener" knife, ground out of Smolen twist, something like these on Gary Levine's site:

Also nearby are, randomly, and on rotation:
CAS Iberia clone of a Ray Appleton folder
RJ Martin Trek (420V)
Dozier semi-skinner
Norfleet semi-skinner
Dave Ricke semi-skinner
Wayne Olsen bird knife in stag

In the living room, near the enveloping leather chair, are a Lile lightweight #1 "Backpacker" in D2 & ironwood and a Blackwood medium hunter in ironwood and Talonite... that damned mail opening demands extreme edge holding!

I keep a Leatherman Wave in my desk drawer... it has every tool I could possibly need on it, and i've used it several times when opening the "guts" of my computer :)
