Your EDC/old or new?

Just wondering how you guys who are more knowledgeable than myself about knife collecting think when it comes to selecting an EDC?
Do you carry the older one that is usually more interesting, or go with a newer knife as to not mess up your older one?
For example, I have about a 1969 110 Hunter that is in really nice condition and the blade doesn't look to have ever been sharpened. I really like the pointiness of the clip blade and the loud snap when it locks open! It's just the kind of knife you would want to open at camp around the guys, but I'd be sick if I dropped it and broke the point or lost it when I have a new 110 that I could have been using. Or would you compromise and use a .110. that also looks like it has never been sharpened, but used as a hammer so it's a little beat up and probable won't ever be as valuable?
I have the same situation with my Rangers, do I use my new one, or the .112. that looks to have been used alot? Do you go ahead and use it, or not use it and stop any further deterioration when you can buy a new Ranger anywhere, but not a .112.?

In the end, I know they are made to be used, I just don't want to feel bad later on for using an oldie, especially when I have an 8 year old son that is eyeing them.

If I like a particular vintage of a model, I haunt the Bay and get a spare;) that way I can carry one and keep the other pristine...its all a matter of preference. Some will say put up the oldie, others will say put it on your belt and use it for what it was made for. If it would make you sick if something were to happen to it, I would say get a slightly used one to carry. If you are patient there are lots of them out there and they can be found reasonably priced.

I usually pack 2 dots. They are fairly common and thus don't usually have a great deal of collector value. The blade steel is hard for some to sharpen but once the edge is thinned down a bit they seem to cut forever.

I agree with sitflyer. I like 440c 110's I have a nice 2 dot for show and I trolled the bay until I found one that looked worn enough that I got it cheap, knowing that a trip to the spa would make it like new. I wouldnt bother with a beat up knife just so I had a knife to use. As a great man once said..."life is too short to carry an ugly knife". I also rotate a brand new 847 Vantage Force, a 2004 296 Tempest and a 2010 Ecolite 110 as my regular edc's.

I like to share the love. Some weeks it's a 110 or 112 of various vintages as well as customs. Other weeks it's a slipjoint ranging from 701 to a new offshore model and some weeks it's a folder such as a Paradigm Pro or a Vantage series or even a Buck Strider 880 SP. Lot's to love when it comes to Buck.

I have and will only have my Bucklite 422. Thank you, Duane. I got a new one and I will carry this ONE as long as I can, just like my Dad did.

I second sitflyer's opinion. In fact, that's what I did with my TNT. I got what was for all intents and purposes a new-in-box TNT that I liked enough to want to carry, but I couldn't bring myself to use and potentially damage a pristine discontinued model. Instead, I picked up a second slightly used TNT to carry and use so I could keep the first one pristine.
