I might be getting a nomad pretty soon and would like to hear what people think of them. I've always been I fan but never had the money to pick one up. Thoughts?

My experience with Al Mar Knives in general has been very positive. I have a SERE 2000 and love it. I can't comment on the Nomad though.

I have a SERE folder and a SERE 2000. These are both very nice and well made knives. I wasn't familiar with the Nomad, but after looking at pics, that looks pretty cool, I wouldn't mind having one.

I just got an Eagle Talon yesterday- great fit and finish, but lacking a pocket clip. (My fault for not reading the description properly) Overall, I am impressed with this knife.

I have a couple of Ultralights, an Osprey, and SLB. I like them all. Fit and finish is good and very good cutting geometry. My in laws had rented a each house and my Falcon Ultralight was the sharpest knife there. It did all the food prep when I was in the kitchen. However, the only people were allowed to use it were my self and my wife.

I also like the shape and form of the Al Mar Knives. They are very pleasing to my eye.

Christian,

I put a clip on my Hawk (smallest Ultralight). I used three 1-72 ss button heads tapped into the Micarta handle. I haven't had any problem with the Micarta stripping out, however I have bent the clip a couple of times.

I've had 3 of them and every one was of the highest quality.
The fit and finish rivals knives costing much more.
They have a "jewel like" quality about them.

I had a collector set of Al Mar knives, but as collectors I can't comment on how they performed.

I have an Al Mar Chef knife in laminated VG10, and it is excellent.

My own experience is quite limited. I had SERE 2000 and did not like it. From my point of view the handle was heavier and bigger than you would expect for that blade. And there was a problem with the lock - the blade had a small play (I have been told that the knife was assembled by two factories - and mine was obviously from the "wrong one")
But dispite all that I have always had my eye on Nomad - I think that is very interesting knife to try. Nice shape and size. And hopefully no problems with the lock. :)

I've got an OLDDDD Eagle -with ivory?(or could that be Micarta I can't find the lamination lines in it) scales = seen plenty of use and comes back for more - I retired it because I just don't need that size anymore...I made a leather pouch to belt carry it) A great looking and feeling knife with a personal history
Peace

I bought a used SERE folder about six years ago. Despite previous use, the folder is solid and has one of the best liner locks I've used. I've used it for cutting branches, food prep, slashing hard plastics and it still works just fine.

Since then, I've gotten a Nomad and looking to get something from the ultralight series and one of the fixed blades.

Everyone I've handled has had flawless fit and finish. To top it off I tend to think they have some of the most beautiful designs on the market.

I have carried an Al Mar Nomad for three years or so. It was a gift from my daughter, and my first impression was kinda luke-warm. However, this little blade just keeps growing on you as you use it. It is now by far my favorite EDC, unless I am outdoors in jeans, when my Swamp Rat Rat Trap is preferred.

I hvae come to consider the Nomad a great little knife.
