What is your favorite blade length for 95% of your cutting chores (i.e. around the house, food prep, camping, etc.)? No ranges please! :D

If I could have only one knife, it would have a 4" blade. Long enough to slice through most foods, short enough for precision work.

I can do 95% of my cutting chores outside the kitchen with a Spyderco Calypso Jr.

I mostly carry 3 inchers. Personally a 4 inch blade feels a bit too long in a folder. I think a 3 1/2 inch blade would be about right for all around carry.

3-4" is about the most useful range... 3-3.5" in folders, 4" in FB, maybe 4.5". I use my larger knives less often than these.

For anything outdoorsy, I like about 10.5" or so blade if I can get away with carrying it. If I had my druthers, I'd use a big, heavy blade for everything. You can do pretty much everything short of picking splinters with a big knife. But a small knife makes for a pretty pathetic brush-clearing tool.

For realistic, every day carry, I like just under 4", around 3.75" or so. The knife in my pocket measures exactly that.

As I get older my blades have gotten smaller. I do most of my cutting with 3.5 blade. My longest blade is a BK-7, but that is task specific and has it's own place. (Camp knife.)

3 1/2 for a folder. 5-5 1/2 for a fixed blade. After that I figure you need to get into the 10-12 range to see any advantage.

I use different knives for food prep and camping.
Food prep would be 10"
Camping would be 4.5"
