For all the batonners (real word?) and choppers out there, what are your favorites?

Cost does not matter and pics are always great :)

I'm sure y'all have some beautiful Busse picks. Love that Infi steel.

I am going to be buying my first chopper/baton fixed and my budget is $100.
I am already pretty set on a Becker Bk9 but I wanted to see what all of your favorites are and if I missed one to look at.

I have been enjoying this sub forum and all the info in it. Thanks guys/gals

Mods, if this should have been posted in Forum: Outdoor Gear, Survival Equipment & More , I apologize and please put it where you see fit. Thank you

Oh, hey, you're over here, too. [emoji3] Another option you might consider is the BK4. I wasn't initially drawn to it, but picked one up because they are being discontinued. It has quickly become a favorite.

Just got my BK9 today. I'll see how it compares after I get a chance to knock the new off of it.

Hi Semper, please let us know what you think of the Bk9 compared to the 4. Ill keep an eye out for a thread on it.

I have an Ontario RD9 and RD7 and often grab the RD7 instead of the 9.
The RD9 is just too big for my needs, while the RD7 is just about perfect IMO.

The RD7 is still big, but light in hand, while the RD9 feels like im holding a short sword that weighs 5lbs.

A lot of people don't like the blocky handles on the RD series, and I didn't either so I filed them down to fit my hands better.
I almost think Ontario made them blocky on purpose so customers could customize the handles as they see fit.

I highly recommend the RD7. Mine is a tank. I beat that thing up every weekend doing yard work around the house.
And one can be had for almost half of your price budget.

Thanks you I will check out Ontario knives. From a quick look on price they do appear cheaper then the Beckers

These two are beasts, BTW the ScrapYards can be had for just over your budget on the exchange.

I will look at the scrapyard knives. I really like the Busses and the Infi steel. I had been putting away for a sebenza slowly and that was changed over to the Busse fund one day. I have enough great folders for now but some Infi one day would be awesome. The Bk9 loos like a great knife for the money but I may have to wait a little and see if I can get a scrapyard off of here for a good price. Thanks for the great pics and tips

No Problem bro...the 1111 was $215ish when available the 911 was right @ $200, so not really a bad price when compared to Tops, ESEE, & Bark River.

Now Infi on the other hand generally can't be touched for less than $250....but I am so happy with my TGLB that I bought a 2nd for back up.

Save a few pennies and you will have a Busse/Kin in no time..trust me, I have to save to buy anything over $100.

Happy Hunting.

I'm going to move it to Outdoor Gear. Easy enough to do and have fun on the thread!

Thanks Brian  , been a good thread so far thanks guys.

I knew all these Busse kin picks would have me looking at them on the exchange tonight. The wifey thought the BK9 was a bit much lol a Busse purchase will come with a beating, but one well worth it haha :D

Firestrike, or anyone else that knows, could you tell me what model the orange handled knife is? The black chopper too? The orange handle looks great on there nice knife

Looks like the black one is a scrapyard and Im guessing my 11"?

Im not to good with the Busse models yet, a lot of abbreviations and beers confuse me

The orange one is a Busse team Gemini light brigade (TGLB), and the chopper is a scrapyard 1111 iirc. I could be wrong, as I'm not a busse-kin expert, but those are two of the more common models.

Personally I love my bk9, if that's worth anything. I love the handle ergos, and the fact that it handles like a much smaller knife somehow. I used to wish it was a thicker blade, but now that I've had it for a while, I couldn't imagine needing anything thicker.

For what its worth, I usually carry a folding saw, and typically baton stuff that's smaller than 4-5 inches nowadays, even though I used to attack big stuff with it. I just learned that the saw was much faster than chopping, and there really hasn't been a need for me to actually baton anything much larger than that.

Good luck with the decision :).

Tis indeed the TGLB and 1111, both are now sold out. TGLB's hit the exchange a lot in perfect condition for around the same price as from Busse...I would assume the price will be going up now though. The TGLB is my absolute #1 favorite design for any fixed blade I have ever used or handled.

They cost a pretty penny though. Its a well balanced design and at 7 3/4" is very capable of all knife/hatchet tasks.

For a pure chopper though look for the Scrapyard 1111, 911, or maybe a Swamp Rat Rodent 9.

If price is holding you back the Swamp Rat Ratmandu is only $160 and just shy of 6" Blade and will likely do most tasks its called on to do..I think I'm actually going to order one of those this morning.

I've read lots of posts and it seems that if it ain't Busse/Kin then people are talking Beckers, as much as I want everyone to have Busse/Kin I would not hesitate on grabbing a Becker if cost is a concern.

Best of luck and keep us posted..

I have been looking at the Infidu version of the Ratmandu. Looks like an awesome blade and Infi steel. As for a chopper that scrapyard 1111 looks great. Ill see if budget allows me to go up that high. I agree the Beckers have a big following and the Bk9 looks like a worthy chopper.

I would like to spend more on my 4"-6" knife as I think it will see more use.

Plus thanks to this great forum and all the Busse pictures y'all have re-ingnited my desire for Infi lol

Just pulled the trigger on a RMD from the shop with Black Canvas and Moss Green coating.

I couldn't resist, now I'm playing the waiting game for my Tan Canvas with Tanker Grey TGLB and the RMD......I will post some pics when I get them...the RMD will be a user, the TGLB will be a safe queen/Back-up in the event I ever figure out how to break my 1st one.
