Your favorite Cruiser Motorcycle?

I've been riding Harleys since 1970. (did I say I was old?) Currently I ride a modified twin cam Dyna Wide Glide. The current production from Harley is much more reliable than their ancestors. The bikes actually start and continue running at stop lights and stop signs. My 1970 XLCH Sportster did not perform those tasks well. The fact that I was mostly drunk back in those post Vietnam days probably had something to do with it too.

I like the sound and feel of a Harley and in the circles in which I run, a Harley is de rigueur. But to be honest, deep inside I lust for a Honda Goldwing. Those bikes are awesome! They don't quite fit the stereotype biker image but as far as power, comfort, reliability, handling and "bang for the buck" goes they are the best in my opinion.

Got a chance to try out a VTX1800...too much bike for me. Maybe the 1300....

I've grown more fond of the idea of a custom cruiser...so, I've lost touch with the latest production models....used to be I really lusted after the Moto Guzzi Jackal...or the Honda Valkrie....or the Kawasaki Vulcan...

Personally, I'm looking for something that will seat me low against a wide back tire, with straight handle bars and a good-sized twin engine.

Not necessarily this one in particular....but starting to get more like it. Oh, and it has to be Black and Chrome - no color whatsoever....blech...

Semp - I do know what you mean about lusting for a GoldWing...they sure do look comfy and are loaded with options. Friend of mine road his 20th Anniv. Goldwing down from MD to FL straight, with very little stopping. It's that comfy.

On my first bike, I couldn't go more than 45 minutes without feeling that the seat of my pants had detached and simultaneously lit on fire!

What do you mean "too much bike?" Heavy? Slow handling?

Man! That color really sucks! I like black and chrome also. Kinda like the Honda Rune, but a LOT of money at $25k.

and maybe I lean more toward the retro look. Will check out the Harley also. V-Rod? BMW has some nice scoots also, but the last ones, forgive me guys, both the Beemer and the Hawg were kinda clunky.

"Along the skin of '66 Clarence gunned his Harley
Nothin' much of consequence was workin' in his head
Man and 'cycle joined together
One black mass of steel and leather
A modern metal monster for the citizens to dread...."

Any time you can get your customers to tatoo your name and logo on their bodies, you have a good product....

But it is really hard to beat the Hondas...... Had my Shadow since 1988 and all the work has been a set of tires; a couple of battery replacements and one clutch cable. Still have the original chain.

Yes and yes...:p

But the Rune (which I have also been on) is waaaaaaaaaaaay too much bike for me. I like getting out of tight situations in traffic, and the Rune is the motorcycle equivalent of driving a school bus.

Not that I want to end up on a Rebel 250........(anything less than a 750 Sabre is too little for me)....

Just like my maneuverability...

My favorite two wheeler is my Jamus Dakar Crosscounty XT full suspension MT bike. It cost 1350.00 and is already obsolete at two years old, but it is light, lively, and takes the trails better than it's rider. It's a beaut, a keeper, worthy of a khuk and .41 mag accompanyment as I make the 20 mile trek to the nearby town on the other side of the little mountain range in my part of Eastern Montana.

Oh, you decadent ones insist upon motors? Sorry.

I'm saving up for a cruiser right now...haven't decided what I want exactly. Guess it's just a matter of riding a bunch of models and seeing what feels right. Gotta get it soon, though, because in May I'm riding it across the country.

I'm with you, munk. I ride my early 90s Specialized Rockhopper hardtail to work every day. It's not a pretty sight at this point, but I've had it forever and it still gets me where I'm going. Silly people with their engines and steel cages would rather talk on their cell phones than watch where they're going. Makes every day that much more exciting!

Tycho, I've got my old red Jamus Dakar- Prestige double butted tubing- the thin kind intended for TRACK racing... all shimano top of the line stuff, NO SHOCKS. Still love it.

I saw one similar to one of these the other day that stirred the old juices. :D The fellow riding it kinda reminded me of Nasty.

This is what Sweet has I think, and is exactly what I would want as well. This one has different rims, but I'm pretty sure it's the same bike. Sweet has perfect taste in bikes and kukris as far as I'm concerned, and will be leaving me everything in his will.

Unfortunately, I think he is considerably younger than me. :(

But come to think of it, maybe if..., no guess not. ;)

Yeah,

I like the self-pedaling bikes.... Unless going downhill

This was an incredible experience. Watching the sunrise over the Haleakala volcano crater. Utterly desolate. Nothing growing. Looked like the surface of Mars. Then a 38 mile downhill coast!

Was in Maui for a Tony Robbins two week seminar. Also an incredible experience! 1990

I like cross country. I generally don't like downhill. Downhill has become a performance sport with specialized bicycles. People drive to the tops of mountains and ride down. Fewer ride up than down.

I like seeing things from the bike. Downhill is generally either constantly controlling your speed, or pushing the edge. You don't see as much.

Satisfaction after a hard days ride for me used to be gently going down after spending the day pushing to climb.

90 and 100 hour weeks and I don't have a life. I made it to the Baha Cantina just once, and that was probably the one time you weren't there. After 400 hours OT, my boss let me take off 2 hours early one day, and then called me on my cell with work questions. I used to telecommute on Monday's, but she put a stop to that, so now I have to spend an extra $50 a month driving in, just to sit in my office.

I never thought it was possible to hate someone this much, but I digress...

I don't know if folks are still meeting out there Thursday's or not, is it just a summer thing? My car is a mess, so I haven't felt like showing anything off anyway, but would be glad to meet you anytime for a drink. There's not too many HI guys who live in the same town...

Cool video at Laguna.

Regards,

Norm
