Looking for my first neck knife what do you like and recommend. Trying to keep it at or under $150.00 but can go more if it is a big leap value.

Thanks for the help!!!

I just put up a review of a great little Murray Carter-style neck knife by Daniel Rohde here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1472556-Daniel-Rohde-neck-knife

Check that knife makers forum. I just picked up a nice little 80crv2 necker that I can't wait to put to use

I've had a few "neck" knives. Found that I don't like carrying them on my neck at all. The best one was the Spyderco ARK. It was a true neck knife in that it was so light and thin you hardly even noticed it. Esee Izula is a classic and a great option. A step up would be something like the Spartan Enyo. If you want a small knife that be carried not around your neck the Bradford G3 is top notch.

My current favorites in no specific order!

Bradford Guardian3
Evans Knife and Tool Companion
J. Mason Custom EDC wharnie

White River Knucklehead is a close runner up!

I have tried a plethora of knives for neck knives, and I have found my Tree Frog is perfect, for me.

You could probably find something great on the knifemakers for sale area here. Or at least find a maker that will make one for you.

I found a fantastic CPM 10V neck knife here in the individual for sale are for 95 bucks. Great neck knife! I also use a Stellite 6K neck knife that I made, both work very well!

Bradford makes great knives!

I love the looks of that Begg.

I've found that I really dislike carrying anything of weight around my neck. And most knives of value have "some" weight to them. But it just so happens that today out of the blue, I grabbed my Spyder ARK. And actually wore it around my neck (to work even). Don't think I've worn a blade around my neck in over a year.

But suggestions would depend on desired expectations. There can be a big difference in something wanted for utility, versus pure self defense. The ARK is not one I'd suggest for general utility. But today I simply wanted to see how the thin blade did on mail opening duty. Yesterday I tried out an Opinel No. 4.

Many neck knife suggestions I've heard, I actually like. But what I have, I just carry in jeans back pocket. Like the Esee Izula and Candiru. I've been pocketing the Candiru for the last few weeks. Another favorite is my Boker Stag Fitz.

A few of these were just purchased for laughs (found cheap on closeout). You'll probably never guess which ones. [emoji12]

I like the Cold Steel Secret Edge. It is very unobtrusive, and it won't weigh your neck down.

I honestly don't think they are comfortable and are more a risk to a wearer; if they fall out of a sheath. I have a mora eldris and one other cold steel one. The mora eldris has become a kitchen knife and the cold steel my envelope opener, sits in the desk!

A folder that could go round your neck, hmm... maybe. I'm not convinced.

But please, do try and sell me the idea of a neck knife, always interested in comparing opinions.

Well I really like the looks and size of The Esee Izula II or the Tops UTE But that cold steel with the AUS 8 blade and below $25.00 delivered won the day for me and I can return it for free if it don't work out.

I am still looking though so more suggestions would be good.

Question for the OP. Have you considered what weight would really be comfortable around your neck? Unless you are just meaning "neck knives" as a generic term, and just looking for neck knife "sized" knives that will most likely be carried some other way?

I was initially intrigued by the concept. What's not to like? Free up pockets or belt, fast easy deployment, easily conceal under shirt. It all sounds good.

But if you've never tried it, get a bead chain or paracord, and add some weight to it. Get a small carabiner or keychain, and hook up some weight comparable to the blades you are most attracted to. Wear it around for a few days.

Here's another pic with a couple of mine with the sheaths (sleeves) that I use to back pocket carry. The Izula's come with great poly sleeves, but retention is a bit overkill. So for those I made some leather. But the one with the Izula II, is stacked leather with belt loop. So a bit thick, but still pocket every now and then. The nylon and Velcro thing that the Candiru came with, seemed impractical. So I made little folded Kydex sleeve for it. With removable leather horizontal belt loop.

+1 on that
ARK and CRKT Minimalists were the only ones light and small enough for comfortable carry for me
