NO ,no, not your second favorite knife!

What is your fav backup blade? Was is chosen for its concealability, cause of its "otherhandedness", because its "disposable",because it folds where the other is fixed, or for different reasons?
I'm currently monoblade and curious!

Spyderco Endura.

For all the reasons you mentioned.

Stop when you get to bone.

For pocket carry it's a small SAK executive which I have on a key chain. My back up for the SAK is a 17" handforged Damascus bowie with stag scales which makes short work of bagels and muffins when needed.

My secondary carry knife is a Spyderco rescue Jr. with stainless handles. I chose it because I needed a serrated blade to compliment my plain small Sebenza. The rescue Jr is one of the strongest knives that I have ever seen and does the job quite well.

BM 750! I keep it with me all the time. It has saved some ware and tear on my more valuable knives!!

My favorite "back-up blade" is MY smoothed-out Spyderco Stainless Native II.

. (This "backs-up" my also smooth Spyderco Stainless Endura II.).

(I "removed" the "sharpness" out of the handles of these knives.).

Kinda depends on the dress of the day. If I'm in jeans...the norm for me, my #2 blade is a small 2 blade Case I've had for more than a few years. Reason...it has 2 sharp small useful blades I can do a lot with. Cleaning fingernails, stripping wire, opening packages, anything else for which I don't care to pull out a full size folder for....it can do a bunch. I usually carry a main folder like a bm710 or similar config. as my main blade. I don't like pocket knives or much of anything else down at the bottom of my pockets. This small Case fits nicely in the small watch pocket in my jeans.......easy to get to..secure...ready for a variety of projects. Other than that I usually have a fresh single edge razor blade in the cardboard wrap in the wallet. Other than a small sak on the keychain I usually have most situations covered. Course I'm usually not too far from many other blades..large and small ....if I'm in my own environs...work or home.

A partially serrated Spyderco Native. Since the serration to plain edge ration is greater than 1:1, it functions like a fully serrated blade. I also tend to carry a third knife that's a plain edge. Depending on my mood, it can be anywhere from a Spyderco Cricket, BM 710, or plaine edge Native. And I always have a SpyderCard in the same pocket as my wallet.

My secondary knife is usually my Spyderco Cricket but it changes sometimes with what I'm wearing.

New Secondary Blade!!!

SwissTech Utility Key. Always there, stays sharp, never gets any attention except "hey, I want one of those" and I got it for 9 bucks CND (That's 6 bucks USD). Plus, I can open an imported bottle of beer, screw small things (OK, stop snickering) and to date it hasn't come loose.

Cheers,

Leatherman WAVE or SAK officer, depending on whether or not i'm carrying anything bigger

I currently alternate between either a Matriarch, plain-edge Merlin, or a BM705 in my left front pant's pocket.

Good "otherhand" knives that I can even use in my... otherhand

Sometimes I go tri-blade and carry a Nealy peshkabz or my new Lightfoot razor, around the neck.

Hiya Ferret,
outdoor backup to Fallkniven F1; Endura II plain edge zytel handle. Urban "walk on the wildside" same. A classic blade at any price.

As for the backup, I go with a Spydercard (plain edge) in my wallet. Good backup for all the reasons you said in the opening post. Very handy in places where a pocket clip is not an option.

Neil, that's the first time I've heard someone got a BM 750 as a backup knife, and I'm glad to hear it. I do exactly that.

Mission MPF Ti, hardly ever use it but always carry it 'cause it won't rust next to muh sweaty body and in an emergency it can be used to pry and do all sorts of other sundry no-no's. Makes a lousy hammer though, the Ti is too light.
